50th Annual 7th Grade Basketball Tourney 'Thank You's!

To our great Aquin families and even better friends,

Thank you to all for your help, hard work, and commitment the last two weekends. We had a great tournament and I had many compliments over the 4 days about everything we have been doing. We did it right and represented our school with pride.

Jess and I just did all the money and financial numbers. After it's all over, our gross revenue was $4,196--subtract all expenses (trophies, refs, pop, food purchases, pop deliveries which totaled $1598)--and we will be donating $2600 back to the Aquin Jr. High sports program.

This is the second year in a row for this size of donation from this tournament. While this tournament has continued for 50 years, the real tradition is in the great Aquin families that volunteer, contribute, and 'get dirty' to make a difference for our kids, school, and community. Thank you for being good role models and leading by example. In my opinion, that is the 'Spirit of Aquin' and what makes me want to be a part of it.

Tourney Coordinator

Congratulations NUIC Speech!

On Saturday, Aquin hosted the 2nd Annual NUIC Conference Speech Meet. Congratulations to the NUIC Speech Meet Champions--Team Pearl City (team member is Alyssa Johnson--daughter of Mrs. Amy Johnson, Aquin 5th grade teacher) and 14 Event Champions (Teresa Tolliver from Aquin in one event)--and the hosts of the meet . . . your Aquin Speech Team. Find more photos of the awards and teams on Smugmug.

And thank you to Dan Stevens for his contributions toward making this meet a success at Aquin!

Be a SUPER Supporter with Amazon Smile!

Are you an Amazon shopper? If so, we have a great way that you can help Aquin every time you shop. Instead of going to amazon.com--go to smile.amazon.com. It looks and operates just like Amazon, BUT every time you make a purchase, Aquin receives a rebate. And if you use Scrip online, you can make that rebate even bigger--plus put some cash in your tuition account.

Go to Amazon Smile and create your account--and select 'Aquin Catholic Schools' as the charitable organization that you want your rebate to benefit--thank you for your support!

Music to our Ears!

Aquin Interim Music Director, Jeff Lehman, invited Aquin seniors, Teresa Tolliver and Samantha Klemm, to the Big Northern Conference Music Festival. Mr. Lehman was the guest conductor of the Honors Chorus at the event held on Monday.

(Thank you to Dr. Tolliver for a photo of the girls and their director!)

Help with 'George M!'

Aquin High School will present the musical, 'George M!' on March 20-22. The play is about the life of the famous George M. Cohan and spans the years from the late 1800’s to the early 1930’s. We need your help with the various aspects of the production of 'George M!'.

We are in need of costumes of the era. In order to avoid any extra spending from our limited theater budget, we will be working hard to fill our costuming needs through donations. We are asking you to look in your closets or basements for anything resembling the following:

  • clothing from early 1900’s-1930’s
  • long full skirts long full dresses jackets vests blouses hats

  • suits (especially a white suit with vest): pants, knickers, jackets
  • hats: fedora, newsboy, straw and bowler spats

We can alter clothing to make it work for our purpose.

We are also in need of several American flags of any size and red, white and blue bunting. This play has some very patriotic numbers. We will eventually need help building sets, usually on Saturdays. If you can help, please let us know. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Directors Steve and Patty Hotchkiss

REMEMBER--We need your old T-Shirts!

On Friday, January 30, we will be celebrating our annual Big Dawg/Little Dawg Day. Students will be participating in superhero-themed events throughout the day. We will be providing them with 'SuperDawg' capes on this day at St. Joe's--and we need your help!

300 students = 300 capes = 300 t-shirts!

One cape can be made from any size or color t-shirt. The only requirement of the shirt is that the front or back of the shirt is solid, with no printing on it (or the inside of the front or back of the shirt has no printing on it--see completed sample above). Our local printer, Scott Stichter is providing us with nearly 100 free shirts to use, so we now only need 200 shirts. Please, clean out your dressers and closets (the Diemers found 13 in 1 dresser)--do not go out and buy new t-shirts to send in to be used as capes!

And then, please send your shirts in ASAP!

In addition to cutting the shirts into capes, we will also be printing the 'golden A' on the back of the capes. Again, Scott is helping us with this portion of the project and we will be printing them over the weekend at Aquin.
The sooner the delivery of your shirts to either Aquin office the better--and no later than Friday, January 23--thank you in advance!
