Follow Up From Thurs and Fri

If you missed the letter home on Thursday evening, you can find it here:

I want to take the time to say a little more about what our school and district does to proactively prepare for unfortunate situations like what just recently happened in Oxford. Our district admin team met on Friday to reaffirm that our plans are clear for safety and to improve/plan further supporting steps. Our current district wide safety measures include:

  • ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) training for staff

  • Controlled entrances with video surveillance

  • NightLocks for classrooms

  • Regularly practiced safety drills

  • Adult supervision throughout the entire school day in all areas

  • Mental health resources for our students including Social Emotional Learning

For more tips about talking to your children about violence, consider this resource:

Please understand that we can only do something about things that we are aware of. Encourage your students to come forward with specific information that might be a concern. Also encourage your student to press pause before posting, sending, or commenting on social media.

10th Grade GCI Presentation

On Thursday, the 10th graders learned about the Genesee Career Institute (GCI). You may know it as the "Skill Center". There are many programs that GCI offers including Human Services, Architecture and Construction, and Law and Public Safety. The focus for students interested is to ensure they are not behind in credits because a student behind in credits can't take advantage of this program. Call the counseling office with questions and visit this site for more information:

GCI and Dual Enrolled Student: Entering and Exiting the Building

GCI and all other dual enrolled students often enter or exit the high school at times outside of our normal transitions. For this reason, we ask students to EXCLUSIVELY use the main entrance as they enter or exit. This allows us to monitor the flow of students leaving or entering the building. It may be more convenient for a student to leave through a side door closest to his or her car, but it is also difficult for us to monitor if every student walking out any particular door is actually supposed to be doing so. We also ask that students that are early for their next class go to the cafeteria or the media center and not wander to other parts of the building. Thank you for understanding and please call the office with questions.
