ALICE Drill January 18

We conducted an ALICE drill on Friday, January 18. ALICE is a set of proactive strategies we teach staff and students to utilize in the event of an armed intruder. The acronym ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. ALICE is not designed to be sequential. Just as we do with fire drills and earthquake drills, we practice for emergencies to train staff and students to respond quickly and decisively on a course of action that will keep them safe. Emergency plans are posted in each classroom and office. In the event of a true emergency, parents and guardians will be contacted through our AERIES communication. In recent weeks, we have been sending messages through this communication tool. If you did not receive a message Friday afternoon from the school regarding the conclusion of our drill, please contact the school office as soon as possible so that we can ensure that we have current contact information in our system.

End of First Semester for GJSHS is January 25

Report cards for the first semester will be mailed home on Friday, February 1. Eligibility for extra-curricular activities, such as sports, will be determined on Sunday, February 3. Please utilize the parent portal on Aeries to view student progress.

A Note from Our District Nurse

Staff Feature

This week's staff feature is Miss Jenny Cairns. Miss Cairns teaches second grade at Indian Valley Elementary School. She joins us this year after several years of experience both in San Diego and also Humboldt County. Miss Cairns was excited to move back to the North State and we are very fortunate to have her join our staff. Miss Cairns loves teaching all subjects, but when you visit her classroom, you can definitely tell she has a particular fondness for science. Her second-grade students have even done some coding! Now they are working on becoming math fact ninjas! We are so glad to have Miss Cairns as part of our team at IVES and PUSD.

We Need Your Help

We receive Title I and other federal funding for our school based on the number of students who qualify for free or reduced lunch. Because of the grant PUSD received to have all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch, many families have not completed the confidential income verification form. This can be done easily through your parent portal or we have forms available in each school office. We use these funds for extra interventions for our students, including a classroom paraprofessional who works directly with students. Thank you for completing the form to help us to secure the additional funding.

About Us

Indian Valley Elementary School and Greenville Junior/Senior High School are in beautiful western Plumas County. We serve the students of Indian Valley, which includes the communities of Greenville, Crescent Mills, Taylorsville, and Canyon Dam. We are essentially a K-12 school since we are located on one large campus where we share several facilities.
