Santan Quarterly Report
May 2017
Keep Calm & Storm On!
LETTER FROM THE "EDITOR" ... MRS. KOWALINSKI
Dear Santan Junior High Families,
As the year comes to a close, I would like to express my gratitude to all the Santan families for a wonderful year. It has been an honor and pleasure to work with your children and the staff here each day. The Santan community is a special group of families, staff members and children who truly make it a joy to come to work each and every day. I wish for you a safe and fun-loving summer.
May brought us many exciting events! This newsletter will showcase some of the exciting events that took place over our fourth quarter. Students celebrated their two years at Santan, they were involved in plays, performances, and water days. Academics are paramount at Santan, but having fun at school is important, too!
Congratulations to our incredible team of teachers, our support staff, our students and community as Arizona Educational Foundation has named, for the second time, Santan Junior High as an A+ School of Distinction! What an incredible honor for our families and school!
On behalf of the staff and administration at SJHS, enjoy your summer! We will see our new 7th and new 8th graders on July 20th for Stormin’ Day to pick up your schedules and other important information.
Educationally yours,
Barbara J. Kowalinski, Principal

Did you know that Santan is an AVID school?
AVID is a fourth through twelfth grade system to prepare students for four-year college eligibility. It has a proven track record in bringing out the best in students, and in closing the achievement gap. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination.
AVID targets students in the academic middle: B, C, and even D students, who have the desire to go to college and the willingness to work hard. These are students who are capable of completing rigorous curriculum but are falling short of their potential. Typically, they will be the first in their families to attend college, and many are from low-income or minority families. AVID pulls these students out of their unchallenging courses and puts them on the college track: acceleration instead of remediation.
Santan Junior High’s cafeteria has recently been decorated with a variety of inspirational pennants with some of our favorite colleges and universities. We are proud to be an AVID school!
HAVE A SAFE AND AMAZING SUMMER!

first three quarters of the school year. These students are honored
at a special banquet in April. Work hard and set your goals high
and you, too, can become a Stormin’ Scholar!
