Electron Configurations
Pg 6 Evan Ewing
Steps to Write an Electron Configuration
1. Find your atomic number.
2. Find out the charge of the atom.
3. Use the Diagonal Rule.
4.Fill in the orbitals according to the atoms electron number.
Ex: Aluminum 1s2, 2s2, 2p6, 3s2, 3p1.
Steps to Draw an Orbital Notation
1) Start by writing down your Electron Config. Make sure to leave space.
2) then draw 1 line over every S you see, 3 lines for every P, 5 for d and 7 for f.
3) After that we use Pauli's Exclusion Principal.
Ex: l
