Definition of Gifted and Talented Learners:

Gifted individuals are those who demonstrate outstanding levels in academic learning and outstanding talent, who perform or show the potential for performing at remarkable levels of accomplishments when compared to peers of the same age, experience, and environment.



Description o the Program:

Academic challenges by extending Gwinnett County Public Schools AKS.

-FOCUS - Elementary Level

-PROBE - Middle School Level

-QUEST - High School Level

K-5 receive instruction in resources, cluster and /or accelerated content.

Middle and High school students receive instruction in advance content classes.

Testing of Gifted and Talented Learners:

Testing students for the gifted program gives an idea on the student's performing levels academically and creative abilities to that of their peers. There are two types of test that are given for students who may qualify for the gifted and talented program. The achievement test is to determine what thy already know and if they are more advance than their grade level. These type of achievement test may be academic or standardized testing. The second type of testing is the Ability test. Intelligence quotient (IQ) or Cognitive abilities test scores are used to identify gifted and talented students. These are useful is measuring intelligence, but not helpful identifying creative, leadership, or other abilities.

Students of the gifted and talented program learn and study better in least restrictive environment, accommodation should be made during this time so that students do not become bored with what they are working on. Often gifted an talented students need challenges to help stay focus on a subject they succeed in.
