Testing Update

An Update from the District:


As you may know, each year in the spring, districts, and schools are charged with administering the Smarter Balanced California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) to students in grades 3–8 and 11th. On March 16, 2021, the California State Board of Education (SBE) took action to move forward with the administration of the CAASPP for the 2020-21 year but with great sensitivity to the additional stress that annual assessments can place on teachers and students, and understanding that some districts will not be able to administer the CAASPP because of the pandemic.

It is apparent that parents/guardians are more engaged than ever before in their student’s learning and progress. Therefore, it is important that you are also equipped with the most up-to-date information. To this end, Petaluma City Schools will administer the two district measures to our 3rd through 6th-grade students: STAR assessments in reading and math along with the Illuminate Outgoing Broad Coverage Assessments in English language arts and math. Even though the administration of the CAASPP assessment is not a viable option due to the shortened window of time available for testing students, it is the district’s priority to provide parents/guardians to the clearest extent possible with indicators of whether or not their child is on track for grade-level learning. Therefore, we will strive to send parents/guardians their student’s STAR and Illuminate score reports from the 2020-21 spring administration by June 4, 2021.

We plan to administer the alternative assessments between May 10th and May 28th

The Emergency Broadband Benefit Program is a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) program that provides a temporary discount on monthly broadband bills for qualifying low-income households. If your household is eligible, you can receive:
  • $50 / month toward broadband service
  • $100 one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase laptop, desktop, or tablet if they contribute more than $10 and less than $50 toward the purchase price.
Eligible households can enroll through an approved provider or by visiting GetEmergencyBroadband.org.

Option to resubmit Health Screening

Families, students, and staff should now have the option to delete and resubmit a ParentSquare daily health screening if a mistake is made on the form. After submitting, there's a clickable link that says "delete," which you can see in the screenshots below. After clicking that, you should see a button to "Submit Daily Screening." Clicking on this will allow you to resubmit the screening.

Safe Routes To School

  • It’s our last Walk and Roll to Anywhere Week of the school year and also the beginning of May Bike2It! month! We have some awesome, fun activities and a great way to share the information is to show our fantastic Video Commercial!
  • Please also share our Parent Survey (English Spanish) with your parent community—their responses will really help to inform our program (and they might win a $50 gift card to a local business of their choice!).

Our last PTA general meeting was Wednesday and we elected new board members for the 2021-22 school year! Congrats and we know that you all will do well!

Thank you also to all our volunteers who juggled distance learning and their committee commitments to help out the PTA this year. You are all rock stars!
