2020-2021 TCPS Calendar Approved at December Board Meeting
The Talbot County Board of Education approved the 2020–2021 academic calendar during its regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, December 18, 2019. The next school year will begin on Monday, August 24, 2020 for students and on Monday, August 17, 2020 for teachers. Winter break will be December 21–January 1, with schools reopening on Monday, January 4, 2021. Spring Break will run from April 2–9, 2021. The last day of school is scheduled for June 11, 2021 if all four allotted inclement weather days are used.
The academic calendar is designed to provide for continuity in instructional programming, time for teachers to attend professional development, holiday observances, and traditional breaks for students and staff during winter and spring. It also complies with Maryland law requiring at least 180 instructional days, as well as negotiated agreements and district policies. The calendar was developed by a committee, TCPS families and staff and the community provided input through an on-line survey. There were more than 1300 responses, with 49% favoring the approved calendar over others presented.
“I appreciate the level of input we received from all of our stakeholders,” said Helga Einhorn, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. “It allowed us to develop a calendar that reflects the needs of our students, staff and community. This truly is a collaborative process.”
