Dear PUSD Community,

I hope that you all had a safe and enjoyable winter break.

PUSD schools will resume in-person instruction on January 4, 2022. With news about the Omicron variant and significant spikes in case numbers, it’s as important as ever to follow guidelines from health experts.

In response to the surge in COVID-19, PUSD is working with the Pasadena Public Health Department (PPHD) and recommending multiple prevention measures.

Stay Home if You’re Sick

We urge parents/guardians to keep students home if they are experiencing any symptoms.

Masks

As a reminder, masks are required to be worn at all times indoors and outdoors if you cannot maintain six feet of distancing on PUSD campuses.

  • Upgrade your mask: Good fit and filtration continue to be the best way to get the most out of your mask. CDPH Guidance for Face Coverings If you don’t have access to one of these masks, wear a surgical mask or a surgical mask with a cloth mask on top. If you choose a fabric mask, opt for one with three or more cloth layers. No matter what kind of mask you wear, check the fit by avoiding gaps above the nose or on the sides.

Testing

PUSD is also responding to the challenges of access to COVID-19 testing. PUSD’s Health Programs have offered PCR testing for students and staff this week, and weekly testing at schools will continue. We are awaiting information from the Los Angeles County Office of Education regarding a Take-Home COVID-19 Test program for all K-12 students.

PUSD Student & Staff PCR Testing Clinic: Monday, January 3, 2022, 8:00 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. at PUSD Education Center 351 S. Hudson Ave. South Parking Lot. Enter from Oak Knoll Ave. If your student has not tested with PUSD before, do not use the Color registration link that was distributed at the start of the school year. Each school has a new unique registration link which will be available at the clinic on January 3. Results will be received 24 - 48 hours later.

Vaccines

The Pasadena Public Health Department says everyone ages 16 years and older should receive a COVID-19 booster, and everyone ages 5 years and older should receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Now is the time to get your vaccination and/or booster shot. Getting vaccinated is the best way to prevent serious illness and hospitalization due to COVID-19. We are offering several clinics on January 3, 4, and 5 for the Pasadena Unified community.

  • January 3, 2022: 8:00AM - 12:00PM, 12 - 17 year olds; PUSD Education Center

We are reviewing newly released guidance from the California Department of Public Health regarding isolation and quarantine timeframes and we will stay in close communication with the Pasadena Public Health Department for any local updates.

We appreciate your support and cooperation as we work to ensure a safe return to campus.
