The OPS weekly news update will provide you with important information about our school and community.
School & District Business:
Urgent Safety Message (Student Drop-Off Zone for Grades 1-5):
Recently, some safety concerns relating to student arrival have been brought to our attention. Below you will find our student drop-off procedures. Please make sure you follow these procedures daily in order to ensure that all students are able to arrive safely and on time.
When using the white striped drop-off lane:
Drivers should pull all the way up as far as they can go before letting children exit the vehicles.
Children should be ready to exit the vehicles quickly.
Drivers should stay inside their vehicles at all times, and refrain from using cell phones.
Drivers should pull away immediately in order for the next vehicle to pull forward.
Drivers are not permitted to park, or stop for an extended period of time, in this lane.
Drivers are not permitted to double park in this lane.
Children should always exit vehicles using a door leading directly to the sidewalk, and use the walking paths leading to our arrival doo
On Thursday, PTA will host another Preschool and Kindergarten Family Fun Night. Are you ready to go on a Bear Hunt?

Celebrating our School Community/#BeKind:
Congratulations Mrs. Hvisdas!
We would like to congratulate Mrs. Faith Hvisdas for being nominated for the American Library Association’s (ALA) I Love My Librarian Award, which honors librarians across the country for their impact in their community. Thank you for everything you do for our little school community!
Hess Truck STEM Program
In December, Mrs. Hvisdas applied for the Hess Toy Truck STEM Kits. We are excited to announce that OPS was selected as one of the schools to receive the Hess Truck Stem program. This program included a set of their recent police vehicles, and a curriculum with lessons about how police vehicles use Steam principles. We will be able to use these kits and curriculum in our Steam program for years to come.
Book Fair 2024
The winter Scholastic book fair was a huge success. It was wonderful to see students enjoy selecting fun books to read. We are very thankful to all of our parent volunteers for participating, and to Mrs. Andujar for organizing the volunteers. We will see you all again in June!
Preschool Fun!
Mrs. Bonawitz’s students really enjoyed the Clothing Study this week. They pretended to wash, dry, iron, fold and hang laundry in the Dramatic Play Center, and design sweaters with beads, pompoms and feathers in the Art Center. During reading time they listened to the story “Caps for Sale” and then practiced retelling the story with props on the magnetic board. They also learned an important lesson about how things do not always work as planned after observing the floating letter experiment.
