The Valhalla Vanguard hosted 15 bands from around the region on Saturday in a rain soaked exhibition of musical talent. Although the event ended in the gym because of the rain, it was no less exciting to see the amazing performances. Stay tuned for the next chance to see our award winning marching band perform.

Valhalla's Norse Players are excited to present our Fall Production, The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza by Don Zolidis. This madcap comedy takes you on a whirlwind through the breadth of Greek Mythology as two narrators attempt to teach the audience ancient history through a contemporary lens. Valhalla Seniors and Parents: Join us on Tuesday, October 18th for Financial Aid Night! We met with all seniors last week and impressed upon them the importance of applying for financial aid through the FAFSA or CADAA. These applications are free and we don't want students to miss out on valuable financial aid! We will have college financial aid experts with us on this night to help answer any questions you may have. We will also have translation available. Students and parents are encouraged to attend together and please bring a charged chromebook. Seniors were also provided with a detailed list of items to bring. Many students who attend are able to submit their application on the spot. Don't miss this great opportunity!

• Due to vandalism and vaping concerns, we have had to close a number of bathrooms around campus in order to better monitor the situation. Look for more information about the student vaping epidemic affecting schools across the country coming soon.

• In an effort to help some of our students stay in class throughout their scheduled day, we are creating a "No Fly" list. Students that frequently roam around campus and don't go to class will be placed on the "No Fly" List. Campus Supervisors will escort students to class and teachers will be asked to not allow them to leave. We're hoping this effort will keep students in class longer and increase learning. Parents of students selected for the "No Fly" list will be contacted by their alpha-specific Assistant Principal.

Please stop by Counseling's lunch presentations for Career Week Nov. 1st- 4th! Schools and experts will be sharing about different careers, training and their experiences in rooms 305-308. Thanks!

Starting this Wednesday, the counselors will be offering weekly college and financial aid help on Wednesdays during lunch. Students can drop by and ask questions, get their applications reviewed, etc. We will also be kicking off Workshop Wednesdays this week. Every Wednesday during 6th and 7th period, we will offer a workshop to help students with their college applications or career preparation. This week's topic is the UC Application. We will walk through the application, provide tips, and help them navigate elements they commonly struggle with. Since we are offering opportunities during both 6th and 7th period, students should attend after they are out of school. We would love your support in encouraging seniors to attend!

It has been a pleasure to work with and support our Valhalla students over the last 7 years. I am incredibly grateful for the trusting relationships that I've built with students and families. Thank you to each of you for opening your lives to me. This is a bittersweet time for me as I prepare to end my journey here at Valhalla. I am moving onto another position that allows me to be closer to home, spend more time with my family and support the community in which I live. My last day at Valhalla with be Friday, October 21st! I know the Orange Nation will continue to provide the support necessary for all students to succeed. I will miss all of you! Thank you! - Mrs. Kissel
