Welcome to Our New Faculty Members!

Governor's Thomas Edison Award

This past Monday, we were notified by The Ohio Academy of Science that our school has been awarded the prestigious Governor's Thomas Edison Award for Excellence in STEM Education and Student Research for the NINTH YEAR IN A ROW! SPB was one of 37 K-12 schools in Ohio (and the only east side school in the diocese) to receive this award. In an email from Michael Woytek, Executive Director of The Ohio Academy of Science, he wrote, "Clearly, your school is committed to teaching beyond the boundaries of the traditional classroom and pushing the limits of experiential learning. Scientific research and technological design can only be learned by doing. Thank you for nurturing Ohio's next generation of STEM talent by helping them develop critical skills like problem-solving, teamwork, collaboration, and communications." Here is the official press release. What a way to kick off the year!

Uniform Reminder

All students in K-8 will be permitted to wear their gym uniform to school from August 26-September 11. On days that they do not have gym class, students are permitted to wear school appropriate shorts and an SPB t-shirt. If you do not have an SPB t-shirt, we ask that you wear a school appropriate t-shirt. No sandals, Crocs, or flip flops are permitted.

School Picture Day

School picture day is Tuesday, September 15. An order form is being sent home with your child today. However, there is no need to send in a paper order this year. Online orders may be made by visiting mylifetouch.com, using our picture day ID: EVTCZ6PN6. If you choose not to order online, please fill out the order form completely, including EXACT payment, and return to school on picture day. Enclose cash, money order, or check made payable to LIFETOUCH. The photographer will not make change.

If your child is a simultaneous learner, we are setting aside 1:00-2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 15 if you wish to bring your child in for school pictures. Simply ring the bell and you will be admitted to go directly to the Eymard Room to have their picture taken. You may also wait until re-take day on Tuesday, October 27. Order online or complete a picture day form at that time.

Simultaneous Learner Material Pick Up

Families who have simultaneous learners are invited to stop by on Friday, September 4 to pick up and drop off materials. Many teachers have necessary materials provided for the students and there is also a communication folder available with picture day materials. The hours for pick up/drop off are 9:00 am until 2:00 pm. Please ring the bell and you will be admitted to get your materials from the table just inside the doors. Thank you.

Message from Father Lane

VIDEO HELP: We are preparing for our new camera and videotaping system in the church for Masses and other events held in the church. If you would like to run the cameras or be part of the production, please contact George Peko @ psr@saintpaschal.com or Father Lane, SSS @ jtlanesss@gmail.com. We would appreciate a regular team to join the two already in place at the Saturday 4:30 PM Mass and during the day for Funeral Mass broadcasts.

GUARINO’S APPRECIATION DAY: Guarino’s in Little Italy, 12309 Mayfield Road, will be hosting a Saint Paschal Baylon Appreciation day at the restaurant on Tuesday, September 8. I miss seeing you all on Monday nights for our take-out meals. This is a wonderful opportunity to gather here in the garden (so pray for nice weather). Please make a reservation through Rachel at 216-650-4582 for lunch or dinner. $10 pasta at the restaurant with a portion of the proceeds going back to the church. Additional charge for salad, soup, alcoholic beverages, and gratuity. We are grateful to Guarino’s for how they supported SPB – and they are grateful for how we supported them during this challenging time to be in business. Let’s celebrate this together!

God bless you! You are in my prayers.

7th & 8th Grade Parents-We Need YOU!

We are asking that each family (mom, dad, grandma, etc.) choose at least two days to volunteer each time slot being 11:10 am-12:50 pm. There are many, many time slots open! We are so grateful for the help!

This is a great way for you to interact with your child and his/her classmates during the school day! Recess Volunteers should arrive to school at 11:10 and check in at the office. Duties will include supervising students at recess, escorting the students to and from the school doors. Volunteers will be with one school staff member each day to help direct.

Remember that after your two volunteer time slots, you are done for the year, as each month is assigned to a different grade.

COVID-19 Volunteer Protocol: all recess volunteers are required to wear a mask and have their temperature checked when they arrive at school.

Thank you again for your time and service to the students and teachers of SPB! Simply click on the following links to sign up: Grade 8, Grade 7
