Viper Voice Newsletter
Message from the desk of Scott Feldkamp
Dear VCMS Families,
I want to welcome you to the 2023-2024 school year. It’s hard to believe that we’ve been in
session for an entire month now! In addition, it’s hard to believe that VCMS is celebrating its 25 th Anniversary this year.
Since the start of school much has occurred. The VCMS teachers are hard at work teaching and providing first rate educational experiences. The VCMS students have been busy learning and getting acclimated to their new grades. Our VCMS football team and cheerleaders are competing and supporting the school valiantly. The VCMS Cross Country team has been out running at various events all over North Georgia. The VCMS Clubs and other activities are getting underway, too. All in all, it has been a terrific start to the school year!!!
I hope that you are going to enjoy our newsletter The Viper Voice. We have structured it into 5
sections or our “5 Vs – Vitals, Valiant, Values, Virtuoso, and Valor”. Each of the Vs will cover different topics and subjects all related to Vickery Creek Middle School. The first V – “Vitals” is defined as “Important information pertaining to VCMS”, this will include The Principal Message, Teacher of the Month, Instruction/Academics, The Counselor Corner, and a Calendar link. The second V – “Valiant” is defined as “Those Vipers exhibiting bravery”, this section will include our competitive athletics and clubs that compete/represent the school. The third V – “Values” is defined as “a principle or standard that is considered important or desirable as well as regarded in high esteem”, this section will include VCMS Clubs, PBIS, Clubhouse, Media Center, and Staff Reads information. The fourth V – “Virtuoso” is defined as “Vipers who exhibit a skills or techniques in the arts, technical abilities, or leadership”, this section will include information about Band, Chorus, Drama, Student Council, and Technology. The fifth V – “Valor” is defined as “those who support the school with strength and courage”, this section will include our PTO and Partners in Education spotlights. I am thrilled to be able to have such an inclusive and comprehensive newsletter that will keep you informed about everything VCMS.
As I mentioned in my opening paragraph, this is VCMS’s 25 th Anniversary. There will be several events throughout this year celebrating this milestone in our history. The first major event will be held in just a few short weeks. The VCMS Fall Festival and 25 th Anniversary Celebration (sponsored by the VCMS PTO) is taking place right after school on Friday, September 15 th . The Fall Festival will have bounce houses, food trucks, vendors, and music. There will even be a dunk tank where your might even try dunking the principal or a teacher. There is no cost for admission, however the food trucks will require payment it you want to order something delicious to eat. I hope to see all of you come out for this truly fun community event.
As the principal of VCMS it is my honor and privilege to serve our community. If there is ever a question, concern, or compliment you would like to ask or share, please feel free to contact me anytime.
I look forward to a wonderful year and all the exciting times ahead!
With warm regards,
Scott L. Feldkamp

VCMS Media Center
Welcome back Vipers! The Media Center is back at it. We welcomed our newest vipers during our 6th grade orientation where students had to take ‘Shelfies’ during a scavenger hunt at different locations in the media center. They did a fantastic job and are ready to get reading!
PTO helped kick off 5 minute crafts in the media center - this month students stopped in to make magnetic locker buddies. Love seeing the students and their creativity!

This high fantasy sequel to "The Name of the Wind" continues to build a wondrous world and invites you along for the ride. I love how the story is told, I love the adventures that Kvothe (our main character) goes on, and I love learning about the different lands and people in Temerant. The emphasis on the importance of music and family to Kvothe is also really relatable and lovely to read about. It's wonderfully written and I'm sad that I'll have to wait a potentially very long time for the third one to be released!

Its a sequel to The Housemaid. I love it because it’s a psychological suspense thriller that keeps me wondering what is coming next. I enjoy this type of book because I try and figure out the ending all the way through!

I am listening to the audible version of this book and it is read by Meryl Streep. It is a coming of age story told through the eyes of a mother with now grown daughters. It is hopeful, nostalgic, and elegant in its prose and story line. So far, I am really enjoining it!
