PYP in the Library!
December is All About Being Reflective!
Someone who is reflective thinks about their learning, as well as their strengths and weaknesses in order to grow and learn.
The library is your place to find books that demonstrate these qualities. Did you know that you could find a list of books for each Learner Profile Attribute and Attitude in Destiny? You can!
- Simply open Destiny,
- Click on the link for Fox Road.
- Click on Resource Lists
- Click Public Lists
- Click on the PYP Attribute or Attitude you are looking for. There is a list of books available in the library for each one (i.e. PYP-Appreciation).
- You can easily find these books in our PYP SECTION).
There are hardcopies of the lists printed out in the library in the PYP section.

For more information on the Wright Brothers, check out Brittanica's entry, found on NCWiseowl. They have information, images, and even a short video of one of their first flights! Brittanica will allow users to print the article, as well as adjust the reading level to make it harder. They've even linked each article to Curriculum Standards by grade level. Check it out under the teacher link for each article.

Culture Kits Available from UNC World Vision
UNC Center for Global Initiatives offers free resources such as their Culture Kits to educators, free of charge, for up to 3 weeks at a time. Their culture kits contain authentic artifacts as well as contemporary and historical items, games, money, uniforms, printed materials, etc. There are kits available to over 55 countries. UNC requests should be submitted at least 2-4 weeks before you plan to use them. The sooner, the better - they're already booked into January!

For a list of kits available by continent, please go to http://cgi.unc.edu/navigators/resources/culture-kits. You can submit your request for a kit online at your earliest convenience. You may even want to request a few kits for your grade level to share.
Below is a photo of a culture kit from Ghana. The kit includes a kalimba, a flag of Ghana, a carved mask, Kente cloth, a coin purse, a hand-carved wooden unity globe, an Afia bracelet, a bakita, and a small djembe drum. Each item comes with a description of the item's use or significance.
