Weekly Update for BV Schools
January 17 | 2022
District Updates - COVID
The link to the weekly case chart is above. We have seen a stable case count for our schools.
As a reminder, you will not receive a notification for routine exposures. Grove and elementary families, if your child is in a classroom with multiple positive cases, you will be notified. For example, there were six total cases at Avery Parsons this week - none of those cases were in a single classroom, so notification comes through this weekly update. If any of those cases had been from the same class, you would be notified through a letter as soon as we are aware and will provide you with any needed actions. Families at all schools will receive notification if your child is considered a "high risk" exposure and by our guidance, testing may be required to stay or return to school.
We continue to monitor overall absences as well. This past week, our middle and high school absences due to all known illnesses (not COVID only) ranged between 7-12%. Our other schools are under 10% with relatively low illness rates. The elementary saw an increase in quarantines due to family exposure at then end of the week. If we see a trend over three days or more with absences over 20%, we will need to consider remote learning as teachers are challenged to provide instruction both in person and remotely. Please stay home when ill, but also commit to being at school when well.
Weekly Zoom Meetings continue each Monday at 5:00 pm for additional information or questions about Recovery practices or other District items. See end of newsletter for link to join.
AVERY PARSONS FAMILIES - IMPORTANT DROP OFF REMINDER
You should ONLY drop off after you pass the flag pole, where Mrs. Madler usually stands to greet you. The space between the street and the flagpole is a staging area, not drop off. Think of it as another 30 seconds to make sure your child knows how much you love them! When you drop off before the flag pole, the flow of cars from the street is backed up. Simply wait until you can pull past the flagpole, pull up as far as you can (our kids will be just fine with any extra steps it might take for them to get to the front door!), and close to the car in front of you.
If you need extra time to unload, just pull into one of the parking spaces.
Please, use the cross walks.
If you are in the left drive thru lane in the parking lot, please drive SLOWLY! There is a lot of foot and car traffic in a small amount of space. By each of us doing our part, we can keep everyone safe and on their way to the next destination just in time.
Slow it down...follow these procedures...use the time while you wait to tell your kids you love them one more time before they hop out. Together we can make the morning drop off good for all! Our kids are always watching and learning how we interact. Let's show them what working together is all about!
Thank you for doing your part.

Calendar Survey Results
The survey also included questions about a four day week. The purpose was to get an initial understanding of the preference of our families and staff for a shortened school week. For our district to consider a shift to a four day week, it will require sufficient time for our community partners, families and school staff to discuss and plan. Again, our intent in this first survey was to get initial impressions. The DAC and calendar committee will use the survey information regarding the four day week later this spring and into next fall and will further engage our community to asses if such a change to the school district operations is recommended. The first time the district would consider such a major change to the calendar would be 2023-24.
If you would like, you can view the results from the calendar survey here.
