Riding the Wave of Excellence!
November 12, 2023
Dear Mission Families,
This Veteran's Day weekend, we express our gratitude to the dedicated service men and women, as well as their families, for their invaluable contributions to our nation. Thank you, Veterans, for your unwavering commitment!
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the families who participated in Science Night this week. Your presence and enthusiasm added immeasurable value to the event. Thank you for joining us and making it a memorable and engaging evening of scientific exploration!
We also thank the families that attended the Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC) Workshop. For parents whose students use AAC, such as a core board, a speech generating device, or icons for communication, this training was tailored to provide practical insights for enhancing communication support at home. Thank you for being an integral part of this valuable session. We hope the knowledge gained will be instrumental in creating a supportive environment for your child's communication journey.
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, we would like to remind you that school will be closed from November 20th to November 24th. Classes will resume on November 27th.
We look forward to our upcoming Student of the Month Assembly this Friday, November 17, at 7:45am.
As the holidays approach, many families have travel plans that result in students being out for several days. We encourage you to plan your travel dates during school holidays. If for some reason your student will be out for an extended amount of time, please contact our attendance office so that we can explore the possibility of placing your student in an independent contract. We require a two-week advanced notice to provide your child's teacher sufficient time to prepare educational activities. Our attendance contact information is as follows:

Did you know that research shows that missing 10 percent of the school year, or about 18 days in most school districts, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence. (attendanceworks.org)
Mission Elementary staff are celebrating student's achievements of attending school regularly by doing an opportunity drawing! Students who attend everyday during the month are selected at random and are given a shout out over the Monday Morning Announcements (3rd Monday of the Month), attendance certificate and special prize. Connect with our Community School Coordinator, Chantel Rothenburger to see how Mission can support your student's attendance.

Responsible Use of Technology
We want to emphasize the importance of monitoring and limiting your child's screen time and social media usage. While technology and social media can offer valuable educational and social opportunities, they also have the potential to become a significant distraction and, if not managed carefully, can have negative effects on your child's development. Below are 2 tips of more to come.
TIP Number 1
Set Time Limits: Establish daily or weekly screen time limits based on your child's age and needs. Ensure they have enough time for other activities like homework, physical exercise, and social interactions.
TIP Number 2
Monitor Content: Regularly check the content your child is interacting with, whether it's through apps, games, or social media platforms. Ensure it's age-appropriate and safe.
