Our Vision: Educating the whole child: mind, body and spirit!
Mote's Note - A note from the Principal - Kyla Mote
Dear Bearkat Families,
February is kindness month, counselor appreciation, Black History Month, Heart Health Month, and contains special days such as, National Freedom Day, Ground Hog Day, National Boy Scout day, Valentine's Day, our 100th day of school, our school Name That Book competition and so much more. We will be talking about random acts of kindness all month and we challenge you as a family to participate with us. If your child does a random act, no matter how big or small, please capture it either by photo or by sending a simple email to their teacher to celebrate in class. We will not be doing a formal Valentines exchange as this is not one of our school wide party days.
Report cards will all be found on our Home Access Center, the same place you access the questionnaires and progress reports. We will not be sending home paper copies so please access them via the website.
Due to Covid, our yearbook sales are down so we have only ordered a limited number of yearbooks. . Yearbooks can be purchase using the Balfour site here: https://www.balfour.com/texas/cypress/black-elementary-school
In an effort to have more students displayed in the yearbook this year, we are going to attempt something new. If your child did not take a fall portrait, please submit a single headshot photo, in front of a solid, neutral background (blue, grey or white preferred).
Please include with your image, your child’s name, grade and home room teacher. Also, to help our yearbook chair sort in a more efficient manner, please make your subject line your home room teachers last name. 5th grade parents, these photos will also be used for the 5th Memory Book if your student did not get a Fall portrait. In order to meet deadlines, the due date for portrait submissions will be February 17th, 2021. Please send your photo to yearbook@blackpto.net. Please continue to submit pictures of your students via the ImageShare App using School Code 129380! The more photo submissions, the more students who are represented. Thank you parents for taking the time to submit photos.
Our next remote learning day is February 12th. We will send students with a packet and connect students may access their work through schoology. February 15th is a school holiday so we will not have a packet or schoology work that day.
Spring pictures are scheduled for Friday, February 19th. These pictures are pre-pay only please click on the picture below to access the ordering site. We will take pictures of face to face students here on campus during the day. We will follow the same thing we did in the Fall for our connect learners. Please sign up HERE if you would like to bring your child up to school for Spring Pictures from 4:45pm to 5:55pm.
We are in intense academic mode here so everyday counts. If your child is at home learning, please help us make sure they are on zoom with their teachers daily and also submitting their work. If students are face to face, please help us with their attendance as well, as every minute counts from 8:40am-4:10pm. During the Fall and adjusting to the learning platforms we gave so much grace on late assignments however, this semester we will be following our grading guidelines for all students again. This means late assignments will have points taken off. If a connect learner is struggling to submit, please contact the teacher or the district help desk (281-897-4357).
I want to send a thank you out to each of you for being an amazing community. This school year has certainly looked different but you all have done a wonderful job supporting the school, the teachers and your children through these unprecedented times. Trust me, I know it has not been easy, but we do appreciate all that you are doing! Students are truly doing a wonderful job wearing masks and staying behind shields when asked to do so.
Again, if your child does a random act of kindness, we would love to hear about it or you may always post on social media and tag us @BlackBearkats or #BearkatBEST.
