Hello Kindergarten Families,
Important Information for the 1st Day(s) of School
Thank you for coming to Supply Drop off! I enjoyed meeting many of you! It was very busy and I want to make sure that you have all the information you need to get you started on the 1st day.
Morning Car-Rider Drop Off:
You can drop your child off in the mornings at either the main door loop or the 4K drive loop. If your child is eating breakfast at school, please drop them off around 7:40 am in the main loop. If your child is eating breakfast at home, please drop your child off between 7:40-7:55 am at either drop off loop and they will walk to the playground (Main loop = walk through school to the back main playground. 4K Loop = walk down the path beside the school to the back main playground.) At either loop, please pull all the way forward to leave room for others behind you. There will be signs and adults there to help beginning at 7:45. Please remain in your car and allow your child (with help of school staff) to get in and out onto the sidewalk curb on the right side (passenger's side, not in the road) if at all possible. There will be many adults around to help your child get to the right place once dropped off. If you prefer to walk your child in, then please park in the parking lot (or off campus on the street, obeying all parking signs) and walk them to either breakfast in the cafeteria or to the big playground out the back side of the school by the main office. You can also park in these same places for pick up (or if you need longer to buckle your child in.) DO NOT park in the drop off lanes! This blocks traffic for everyone else! Thank you!
Afternoon Car-Rider Pick Up:
All Kindergarten students get picked up at the small, 4K loop by the 4K playground (turn in right after the cemetery). This door is the South Door by the yellow wing. Do not try to pick up at the main entrance by the front doors. Be sure to display your child’s laminated name poster! If you have older siblings, they should be walking to meet your Kindergartener at the South Door (yellow wing) entrance by the 4K front playground. This would be a good thing to verify by looking at your child's bag tag (for a purple circle sticker) or checking with their 1st/2nd grade teacher. If you are doing a ride-share with another family with older children then we will not be aware of this and you will need to contact the office so that we can get all the children waiting at the same entrance every day. We do not need to know if the driver changes as long as they are authorized by you. Drivers need to display the laminated white and black signs on your visor or in your window as soon as you enter so we can clearly see the child(ren)'s name(s) that you are picking up. If you have multiple drivers picking up throughout the school year, please ask the office for additional signs. We need to all do our part to keep the lines moving quickly. Please expect a longer wait time the first few days until we all get the hang of things but it will get better!
I will be outside on the playground at 8 am when the bell rings. Students will find me on the set of lines closest to the USA Map on the blacktop on the RED line (#6.) There will be cones with teachers' pictures at each line. Many adults will be there to help direct kids to the correct lines. Please remind your child that they are in Mrs. K’s or Mrs. Krigbaum’s class. Again, many adults will be on hand to help get kids to the right places. Once we are all in line and accounted for, then only students will enter the building with their teachers. We find that this is a natural time to hug and separate because once inside, it is often harder to say "see ya later." I promise that even if your child is nervous or upset that they honestly calm down and have fun once inside! I promise! If your child is struggling on the first day or week, I will contact you. Please consider "no news" to mean that your child is doing just fine! YAY! We got this! Please try to put on a brave face for your child so that he/she sees what a positive experience this is. It's going to be a great year!
Thanks for your loving support with your child,
Let's have a great first day!
Mrs. K
**MILK BREAK, SNACK, & LUNCH -
Please be sure that your child has a nice big breakfast in the morning because it is a long time till lunch. School breakfast is available for purchase daily at 7:40 am.
We will be having a milk break (not food) each day at 8:50, just before morning recess. Your child will have the choice to purchase chocolate or white milk, or just drink water from their water bottle.
Please send a water bottle everyday to be used throughout the day.
At lunch (11 am) children that brought a lunchbox will choose their cold lunch option while anyone without a lunchbox will be served a school lunch.
Snack time will be in the afternoon (at about 1:30), and is to be provided individually by your own family each day. One or two snacks is a nice size to send. Thank you!
Helpful Tips
Please check your child's Take Home Folder each night, as this is how we will send home any important notes, daily work, or things that need to be returned to school, such as permission slips. Teachers will check folders (not backpacks) daily for any notes/money you send in. Thank you for remembering to send your child's folder back to school in their backpack each morning.
