Tigerville Times
January 2023 Edition
From the Principal's Desk
Hello, 2023! It is hard to believe that we are starting another calendar year. We look forward to all of the exciting events we will be having this year. Mark your calendars for Monday, January 9. We will have family fitness at 5:30 PM followed by BINGO for Books at 6:00 PM.
Because of our location in the foothills of South Carolina, sometimes unpredictable and dangerous weather conditions develop in winter. The safety of students and staff is the primary concern when deciding to delay, close or dismiss school early.
In the event of inclement weather, please check the following venues for school delays, e-learning days, closings, or early dismissal announcements:
- Charter Cable Channel 190
- AT&T Uverse Channel 99
- Greenville County Schools District Info Line: 355-3100
- Greenville County Schools District Website
- Greenville County Schools Facebook Page
- Local media such as television stations, radio stations, or websites
Sincerely,
D. Jackson

Welcome to the winter season as we also welcome in a new year -2023! I hope this new year finds you excited about new opportunities and adventures both in your school days and in your home and family times too! This month, the art room will find students working on a flurry of artwork that is reflective of the wonders of winter. We will also be featured in a school art work display at the district office, do our annual entries for Litter Trashes Everyone and begin an exciting learning adventure for our 5th graders as we dive deep into the arts explosion of the Harlem Renaissance of the 1930’s! I am excited to plan exciting projects with new media experiences and new themes for this coming new semester. See you around the art room! Mrs. Sherry Smith
Counselor's Corner
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break! During January, I will be teaching the state mandated Erin’s Law Health and Safety Education lessons. For more information, please check out the Parent Information link below or feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Towards the end of January and into February, 5th graders will begin to discuss Middle School preparation. I will host a Lunch & Learn on Thursday, February 23rd for 5th grade parents to give a little more information before class registration.

Music Notes
K4-K5:
We are going to finish up the 2nd nine weeks Unit on Quaver. They love singing, dancing, and playing instruments along with the activities on the program. Remember, you child can go on Quaver and learn about music anytime they want. 7 days a week. All they have to do is sign-in using google.
1st-2nd Grades:
They will be finishing up the 2nd nine weeks on Quaver and then my plan would be to start moving them to the keyboard lab as much as possible. This will be exciting for some while very stressful and scary for others. I promise we will take it slow to ensure each student can reach their goals. It will be whole class instruction for the first part and then we will move on to a more self-paced class. That simply means all the students won’t be on the same page at the same time. Once a student passes a song they will be allowed to move on to the next.
3rd-5th Grades:
It is now January, and you know what that means, Recorder time. Yes, the kids have been asking every week when they get to start. It is now time!!!! If your child does not have a Recorder, they will need it for music every week starting now. Please make sure your child has one so they can be prepared. Also, if they need an extra one to practice at home, if you are brave enough, I have a few more for sale. The cost is $5.00 each. Each student in 4th and 5th grade will start where they left off last year while 3rd grade is starting for the first time. The kids are so excited
