SENATOR VS REPRESENTATIVE
Senator Sumner is beaten with cane by Representative Brooks
Kansas Nebraska Act!
The Kansas Nebraska Act was passed on March 20, 1854. That means the people of Kansas and Nebraska can decide if they want slavery on their territories or not. The act also repelled the Missouri compromise.
All About the Attack!
On May 22, 1854 I witnessed one of the most violent acts in congress history! The abolitionist Senator Charles Sumner was beaten by Representative Preston Brooks with his very own walking cane! Brook's entered the chamber where he found Sumner busy with his "Crime against Kansas Speech". Suddenly Brook's strikes him with his metal cane. Bloody Charles is taken away while Brooks walks away calmly. Out lookers are very surprised and shocker about what they just witness.
