Bird's Eye View #9 Parent Edition
Welcome to March!
We start this month celebration National Read Across America Week! During this week we celebrate different authors and expose our children to high quality literature. There are 51 instructional days left in this school year and we are working hard to make every single day meaningful and empowering for our Red Hawks!
I would like to remind you that if your child is sick or not feeling well, they can login to remote conferencing from 8-10 am. A doctor's note is required. Flier with log-in information is below. We all take pride on being there for our kids and sometimes you will also see me in remote conferencing helping our Red Hawks!
The 23-24 student calendar is now posted on our Canutillo ISD website. Please take some time to view important dates to plan ahead. Daily Attendance is very important and every minute of instruction counts. Vacation trips are unexcused and are subjected to truancy.
I would like to thank our wonderful Red Hawks PTO for all their work and dedication to our school. They are always very helpful and supportive in all we do for our kids and teachers.
A reminder Wednesday March 29th is Parent Teacher Conferences and there is no school for our students. Please plan ahead and be on the look out for the sign-up sheet. The teacher will send it by Friday. We are aiming for 100% participation.
Enjoy this month and please save this newsletter so that you can take note of all the events. Additionally, if anything is added, this newsletter will reflect those changes as it is a live document.
Thank you for your support. Happy March!

COMPULSORY ATTENDANCE & TRUANCY
Daily attendance is very important
Texas law requires students age 6-19 to attend school each day that instruction is provided. Compulsory attendance also applies to students who are younger than six who have previously been enrolled in first grade and to students below the age of six who are voluntarily enrolled in pre- kindergarten or kindergarten. For students over the age of 19, truancy may result in revocation of enrollment in certain circumstances. Tex. Educ. Code §§ 25.085-.086.
The parent may be subject to prosecution and the student may be referred to truancy court if the student is absent 10 or more days or parts of days within a six-month period. Tex. Educ. Code § 25.095.
For any questions regarding this please contact: Ms. Sandra Uribe, Attendance Clerk or Mrs. Maggie Castillo, Assistant Principal.

If your child is eating breakfast please drop off in the lower level at 7:20 am and let them know to walk to the cafeteria. We are a closed campus for breakfast and lunch.
Station 1 is for PK-2
7:30-7:45 upper level courtyard next to the front office (white gates). All students PK-2 will enter here. You may drop off at the loop behind the flag mural. If you have students (siblings) in various grade levels, please drop off in station 1.
Station 2 is for 3rd-5th
7:30-7:45 lower level drop-off loop. Entrance will be the double doors next to the amphitheater. All 3rd-5th grade students will enter here. You will drive towards the lower-level drop-off loop through Via Canutillo and exit using the same gate.
A reminder that the upper-level parking lot is not a drop-off. Please be respectful and do not use that as a drop-off. We have students and parents walking and dropping off students at this location and it only causes more traffic and safety concerns.
Station 3: Front office. Daycare and school bus ONLY.
See map for dismissal locations.
Canutillo ISD no longer requires students, employees, or visitors to wear face masks, shields, or other coverings. Cloth face covering/masks are highly recommended for every student.

Safety will continue to be our top priority. We work very closely with the Canutillo ISD Police under guidance from TEA and local authorities to ensure we continue to train all stakeholders and following safety protocols.
- Please ensure you are part of the official school messenger (text, email, phone call) system and Parent Portal for the campus/district. All parents are responsible for signing up for it. Please see our campus receptionist to do so. We will no longer use the remind app to communicate with parents.
- All visitors MUST have their ID to show at the door prior to entry into the building.
- If you need to come to the office, please bring your ID and use the Ring door bell and we will ask you to show us your ID at that time before we let you in. If you need to speak to Administration and/or teachers, please call to set up an appointment.
- Monthly emergency drills will be conducted.
- All campus doors are locked and access to building with staff badge only. All substitutes, parents and other district employees will enter through the front office.
- Below are our Drill Handouts for Parents. Speaking to your child before the school year starts regarding the drills we have in school is beneficial. Safety begins with all of us.
Please plan ahead. See intercession dates, holidays and testing dates. Attendance Matters and it is vital to the success of your child.
