College Application Reminders
How to Invite Teacher and Counselor Recommenders through the Common Application
Most colleges require students to submit teacher and counselor recommendations. Every college has their own recommendation requirements. This information is available through the Common Application once students add the colleges they are applying to.
Here are the steps to asking for and inviting recommenders through the Common Application:
- Students applying to four year colleges typically need two Teacher and one Counselor recommendations.
- The teacher recommendations should be from an 11th grade teacher or a current teacher that you had a prior year.
- Ask the teacher in person if they feel comfortable writing a recommendation letter for you
- When they say yes, you will go to the Recommender section in the Common Application and invite the teacher to be a recommender for you by inputting their email. This will generate an email to the teacher from the Common Application and the teacher will submit their recommendation through the Common Application.
- Students will also need to invite me to write a recommendation by adding my email to the Counselor Recommendation section. In order for me to write a recommendation, please fill out this Senior Self Assessment and re-share it with me two weeks prior to needing my recommendation submitted.
