Hill Elementary School ~ Sept. 14, 2015
Need 2 Know...Info/Reminders
~The winner of the Summer Math Packet I-pad is Max Harwell from Mrs. Halverson's room. I will announce it at the end of the day!
- Dave will begin speech on Tuesday, September 22nd.
- Suzie & Jodi were on the MAISA website last week during PLC's and shared that the site had been updated as of August 2015. They found exemplars and a lot of new ways to go about teaching the personal narrative unit that they felt was time well spent. You may want to check it out!
-Child Study is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 23rd. An agenda will be e-mailed this afternoon.
- Constitution Day is Thursday, September 17th. In honor of this day, I would like to encourage staff and students to wear Red, White, and/or Blue. Please remember that by law, all classrooms must teach the Constitution. Dena Downey, has sent out a few e-mails with links to lesson plans and grade level appropriate ideas. She also asked that teachers add a note in your newsletters to parents about why we teach about the Constitution. Please be sure to send Dena a copy of your lesson plans for September 17th. Lastly, Michelle Edwards would love to have pictures too!
-Davison's Homecoming is on Friday, September 25th. Hill kindergarten students will be joining Siple and Thomson kindergarteners to walk in the parade. The theme for this year's Homecoming is "Decades". To celebrate spirit week, Hill will participate in the following spirit days:
9/21 “Groovin” into Monday –
wear your class shirts!
9/22 “Jive” on into Team Tuesday - wear your favorite jersey or shirt!
9/23 “Chillin” for workout Wednesday - wear sweatpants or comfy clothes!
9/24 “Totally Awesome” Throwback Thursday – wear clothes and/or hair from your favorite decade (50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s etc.)

A little bit of PD.....
Celebrations and Announcments
Congratulations Sandy Pifher! Sandy finished her last radiation treatment last Thursday. She has been a real trooper! I am so thrilled for you!
A few of the GREAT things that I noticed last week...
-I received 2 positive office referrals last week! Thank you Leigh Anne and Suzie for taking the time to write up some kiddos for doing great things!
-As the rest of the district joined us last week, I really appreciated the extra presence of staff at dismissal. Thank you!
-4th Grade mentors started this week. It was wonderful to hear the way they spoke with the students they were mentoring. Great role models!
- While visiting classrooms last week, I was in Jodi's room when she was teaching a lesson and students were identifying their own talents. She asked students if they could share a talent that one of their friends possessed. It was awesome to hear things like, "My friend, Cole H, is a really good friend to people, Riley makes people laugh." It wasn't just about an athletic or musical talent, it was about what kind of people they are! Way to go!
-Students and staff seemed to really enjoy our 3rd Annual Hill Hiker's Walk-A-Thon. Thank you for all of your support! I should have a final total some time this week from PTO.
