The MLK and Rabbi Prinz Friendship
"When Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his “I Have a Dream” speech at the March on Washington, he did not stand alone. He was joined by Rabbi Joachim Prinz, a refugee from Nazi Germany, who also addressed the crowd. The horrors this rabbi witnessed in Nazi Germany in the '30s compelled him to challenge America in the '60s. "Bigotry and hatred are not the most urgent problems," he said in his speech. "The most shameful and the most tragic problem is silence!" The rabbi who spoke out for civil rights in America

January's Local History Spotlight
History of the Tree for Boston
On 6 December 1917, 2 ships collided in Halifax Harbor, causing a devastating explosion. It killed nearly 2,000 people and left hundreds severely injured and homeless. Boston sent immediate medical aid and relief supplies to Nova Scotians. Halifax has never forgotten this support and kindness from the people of Boston. To say thank you, the province gives Boston the gift of a beautiful Christmas tree every year.
