Magnificent Memories

A glimpse into this crazy thing I call my life.

Her Life

Erika Morales was born October 7, 1986 in El Paso, Texas. She is the oldest of 2 siblings. Growing up, Morales was a total nerd who always loved to read. Her favorite book growing up was The Witches.

Erika attended Socorro High School, and graduated in 2005 in the top ten percent of her class. While there, she was in A.C.E., which was a program dedicated to students wanting a career in education. She states that it was during her internship in 8th grade, that she fell in love with the middle school classroom. "I love the fact that the students keep you young. It's great to see them flourish throughout the year, and seeing them transition to the high school after a hard year, is the best feeling in the world."

Now, an 8th grade ELAR teacher at GEMS, Morales prides herself on making a difference in students' lives. She sees over 75 students daily, and aims to make a difference in students' lives.

My Hero

"Ms. Morales is very strong!" Towards the end of every school year, students constantly tell me this. I think it stems from the fact that throughout the entire year, I tell my life story. The truth is that I have been through a lot. And the only reason, I still stand today, is because of my Dad. He is the reason I have been able to get through a lot in my life. Growing up, my dad taught me to value myself, and to work hard so that I wouldn't depend on anyone. When my dad was little, he was considered the "black sheep" of his family. Because of this, he pushed himself to be successful. He learned different trades, and was even a mortician at one point in his life! Now, as a grown adult, I realize that my dad worked tremendously, and was willing to go the extra mile to make sure we always had food on our table. Every time I am in a rut, I turn to him for help. That is why he is my hero.

Hillsong: Even When It Hurts

Most people don't know Morales' story. She is a living testimony when it comes to strength. Whenever I am going through a tough time, this song has recently gotten me through the storm. I have learned to put my faith in God, and look ahead to the positive. Although Hillsong, is not my favorite band, the words in this song speak volumes to my life.
