Distance Learning at Meadows- Week of 10/26-10/30

Good Evening Meadows Families,

Thank you to all of our families who made purchases during our very first virtual Scholastic Book Fair. We appreciate your support of our Library. Thank you to our PTSA, Mrs. Patti Mawer and Mrs. Stacey Hamblin for creatively approaching this fundraiser for our school. We appreciate all of our families for embracing this during this unique time of distance learning.

Thank you to our families and students who are participating in the Reflections Art Contest. Thank you to Mr. Gutierrez for chairing this event. We will share results of the art contest very soon!

This week is Red Ribbon Week. Thank you to Mrs. Liz Guadardo for organizing three days of virtual activities that parents can do at home with their children. The message this year is to be happy, be brave, and be drug free. More information below. Also, this week, please join us for a PTSA General Meeting.

Regarding the TK-2 survey that was sent out to our families, we do need all of our TK-2 families to respond. Below, you will see a summary of actions that our school has taken in preparation for a reopening. You'll also have contact information for our parent representatives who are volunteering their time on our Covid-19 Compliance and Reopening Committee. Thank you to Mrs. Danielle Ewing, our district nurse who has become an incredible resource for our district and school, staying up-to-date on the weekly LA County Health Guidelines and messages from the top health experts in Los Angeles. Her health knowledge of the K-12 reopening and health guidelines is extensive and she has volunteered to join our Compliance Committee.

Please reach out to us if you have any questions. We know that you are being given lots of information and to understand all of it can be overwhelming. If any parent needs clarity on how Meadows is handling the reopening, we will host a Coffee with the Principal next month for any questions families may have. As your principal, I am always available for our families to speak directly to you over the phone or over zoom. Meadows is here to work in partnership with you during this time.

Principal of Meadows

Reopening and Compliance Committee and K-12 Covid-19 Health Guidelines

Our K-12 Covid 19 Compliance and Reopening Committee is comprised of teachers, our district nurse, classified staff, administration and parents. The stakeholders will help us uphold the county guidelines and ensure we make the safest and best decisions on behalf of our children.

The committee includes:
Amy Dobry (upper grade teacher)
Terri Parks (upper grade and special education teacher)
Gabby Miseroy (lower elementary and special education teacher)
Danielle Ewing (district nurse)
Merly Soni and Juliet Fine (administrators)
Jennifer Costin (MW Health Office)
Susan Necessary (front office and part of district Task Force for Reopening)
Jayne Wiggins (office manager)
Mr. Jonathan Waymire (parent and School Site Council President)
Mrs. Stacey Hamblin (parent and PTSA president)

Since August of 2020, principal teams have discussed and have been planning for the reopening, district-wide. Our Meadows Reopening and Compliance committee is tasked with applying the district mandates to our specific campus. All of the above critical stakeholders are contributing to the plans for reopening Meadows as soon as we get the go-ahead from the county Department of Public Health. The committee is following and interpreting the K-12 Reopening Guidelines provided by the LA County Health Department and creating systems to ensure a safe, efficient and effective environment for our students. This includes valet line procedures, campus entrances and exits, walking paths for students from classrooms to restrooms, protocols for special education assessment, and consistent cleaning schedules for custodial staff. Recent changes include signage and strategic changes to restrooms ensuring there are no more than two students in a restroom at one time. A health educator from LA County Health Department visited our campus to see how our school is adhering to the county guidelines. We had a very successful visit and were told that we effectively interpret the guidelines. We spoke extensively about the quarantine space and decision pathways we will take in the event that a child on campus exhibits symptoms of Covid-19. The Compliance Committee will meet this Thursday to continue plans and discussions for the potential waiver for a K-2 reopening.

Please reach out to any of us with questions or concerns. Parents, you can contact Principal Fine ( jfine@newhallsd.com ) with any specific questions or concerns. We also have parents, PTSA President, Mrs. Stacey Hamblin (stacey.hamblin@meadowsptsa.org ) and SSC Chair, Mr. Jonathan Waymire (jonathanwaymire@gmail.com ) who will bring any parent questions to the committee meeting as well. Our District Nurse, Danielle Ewing (dewing@newhallsd.com) can answer any questions that are specific to our health response in our offices and throughout the campus. We will have a Coffee with the Principal in two weeks to answer questions for families about the K-2 Reopening.
