Message From Mrs. Kilday
In the month of February, we are going to be talking about love, respect, inclusion, and kindness. As a kickoff to this, we would love to learn more about our families, so we are sending home a heart for you to answer the following question: What is special about your culture? (i.e. music, clothing, food).
You can look for the hearts in the hallway near the map of the world that we will be hanging up as well! This map will be used to see where our families are from. More details to come! We are excited to see your responses!
On Friday, our staff was able to engage in professional development on a program titled Zones of Regulations. We are learning more about this program designed to support self regulation to determine the appropriateness of using it with our preschoolers and to build our knowledge. If we decide to move forward with this we will host a parent event to share more with you.
Speaking of parent events, this Thursday from 12-1 we will host our Coffee With the Coordinator. This month we will have Mrs. Delaney our Occupational therapist joining us to talk about sensory needs and strategies. I hope to see many of you there.
Have a wonderful night everyone.

Community Peer Lottery
All applications are due by February 27th .If your child is on an IEP you do not need to fill out an application. Your child's placement is determined by the team when considering their needs and the least restrictive enviroment.
Report Cards and Progress Notes
Report cards and progress notes will be coming home on Friday, February 3rd. Progress notes are for students receiving special education services and will report on progress toward IEP objectives. Everyone will receive a report card. Our report cards are designed to assess skills we would typically see as a child is transitioning to Kindergarten. It is very normal for your child to receive a beginning or not evidenced on their report card. Children have their own developmental timelines unique to them. Please do not be concerned if you see these ratings on your child's report card. If you do have concerns about your child please do not hesitate to reach out to their teacher. They are happy to talk with you.

Wear Red Day This Friday
Please see one of our parent's message below:
"Every year, 1 in 100 babies are born with congenital heart defects that range in severity from mild to complex. In 2018, we found out at our 20 week anatomy scan that our baby would be born with a very complex and rare form of CHD called Truncus Arteriosus. Essentially, instead of two vessels that work to pump blood in and out of the heart, she was born with one vessel. At 2 days old and weighing just 4lbs 11oz, Lilly underwent her first open heart surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital. Like many with CHD, she will require multiple open heart surgeries throughout her life and like all CHD patients, she will require life long care from a cardiologist. CHD doesn’t just impact the heart, it impacts neurodevelopment, weight gain and the immune system. While Lilly does have a feeding tube due to weight issues associated with her CHD, she is doing so well. I think most of you who know her, would agree that you would never guess that she wears a scar on her chest. February is heart awareness month for both acquired and congenital heart disease. February 3rd is National Wear Red Day. Lilly is our why….what is your’s? "
Kindness Campaign
Kindness Counts initiative:
Although we frequently try to capture and encourage “acts of kindness”
throughout our daily preschool experiences, we will be starting a program wide
“kindness counts” initiative beginning January 30 th . Each classroom will have a
bucket that will be filled up with pom poms every time we notice acts of kindness
in the classroom. Examples could be helping a friend, sharing, using kind words,
showing empathy towards others, compromising during play, volunteering to help
with classroom tasks, etc.
Each time the classroom bucket gets filled, the students will help pour the pom
poms into a large container that will be located in the hallway. When that
container is full, we will celebrate in a special way that is yet to be determined.
Enhancing awareness of kindness and empathy is something that we are always
striving to do!
Classroom Valentines
Valentine's Day Homework!
As Valentine’s Day approaches we continue to talk about friendship. In lieu of individual valentines, children can make one valentine for the class. Your child can create it at home on construction paper by using materials such as stickers, doilies, paper, crayons, stamps, etc. (no candy or food, please). These valentines will then be displayed in our classroom. We have found that the children enjoy sharing their creations. We ask that they arrive at school on or before February 14th.
Please do not send individual valentines for classmates. These valentines will be in lieu of this.
