Board of Education Regular Meeting

Unused Inclement Weather Day

The Manville Public School District has accumulated one “unused” snow day for the 2021-2022 School Year. As indicated on the Manville School District 2021-2022 Academic Calendar, this one unused day will be “given back,” and district schools will not be in session on May 31, 2022.

Manville School District Board of Education Board Member Vacancy

The Manville School District Board of Education has a vacancy on the Board of Education to be filled by a resident of Manville Borough. The appointed term shall be from the date of appointment through December 31, 2022.

Those eligible residents of Manville Borough having an interest in filling the position shall send a letter providing information about themselves and summarizing their interest in the position. All letters must be received by 4:00 pm on Thursday, May 19, 2022.

Interviews will be held by the Board of Education at our special public board meeting during the public session on Tuesday, May 24, 2022. Interested persons will be notified as to a specific time for the interview.

Letters should be sent to Mrs. Jamie Chaya, Administrative Assistant to the School Business Administrator/Board Secretary, c/o Manville School District Board of Education, 1100 Brooks Boulevard, Manville, NJ 08844 or emailed to jchaya@manvillesd.org.

Legal requirements:

  • is a citizen of the United States of America
  • must be at least 18 (eighteen) years of age
  • must be able to read and write
  • be a resident of Manville for at least one year preceding the date of the appointment
  • is not disqualified as a voter pursuant to N.J.S.A. 19:4-1
  • is a registered voter in the district
  • is not disqualified from membership for the conviction of crimes pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:12-1*

*Within 30 days of appointment to the board, a member must undergo a criminal history background check through the New Jersey Department of Education.

Project Life Saver

The Manville School District will be facilitating a county-wide presentation on "Project Lifesaver". Officers from the Somerset County Sheriff's Office will provide information on a free tracking device for families of children with special needs who may be at risk for elopement. The presentation will take place via Zoom on May 19, 2022, at 6:00 PM in English and 6:30 PM in Spanish.

Turns 60!

On April 29, 2022, Weston School celebrated its 60th Birthday! Students, staff, and community members from throughout Weston's history came together to honor the school's tradition. Students performed songs to commemorate the decades, and Mr. Frank and Mr. Kane led the current second-graders in singing the Weston School Song! It was a great time!


Kudos to the Weston 60th Birthday Party Planning Committee for organizing this fantastic event.

Weston PTA Tricky Tray

The Weston PTA is sponsoring a Tricky Tray fundraiser on May 22nd to raise funds for Weston students and teachers. The event will occur at the Thomas J Kavanaugh VFW Post 2290 at 600 Washington Ave. Doors open at 12:30 pm, and tickets are currently on sale for $15 in advance and $25 at the door. To purchase tickets, please complete and return the form by May 6, 2022, to the Weston Main Office with payment in an envelope marked “Pre-Sale Tickets for Tricky Tray.” Admission includes dinner & 1 sheet of prize tickets, and additional prize tickets can be purchased the day of the event. Manville Library Presents the 4th Annual Cupcake Competition

Free Community Resource Event

Somerset County residents in need! Everything is available while supplies last. Items include household items provided by the Giving Network, adult clothing, coats, food, toiletries, and more. There will be agency resource tables providing information on various services available throughout the county. The Somerset County Youth Council will be present to play games and interact with the children who attend. On Friday evening, the Rapid Relief Team will be onsite providing free BBQ food.

RWJBH IFPR Hope and Healing Ida Program

RWJBH IFPR Hope and Healing Ida Program offer emotional support services, education, and community-based resources for individuals and families affected by the aftermath of the Ida Storm. The program aims to assist those impacted by the Ida storm to navigate new experiences better, mitigate stressors, review options and find strategies to adapt to challenges. They provide connections to agencies, programs, and other resources in the community.
