Staff Changes for Next Year (Newly Revised)

Late-breaking news - Attendance secretary, Mrs. Donna Smejkal, will be retiring after 20 years at Washington. Mrs. Smejkal will return to work two weeks with us in August to open the office and help us prepare for the coming school year. She will be truly missed, but we wish her a fun-filled retirement with family and friends!

Mrs. Colleen Miles, PE teacher at Washington and Whittier, will be retiring at the end of this school year after 39 years in education, 24 of those in CUSD 200. Mrs. Craig will be working with the principal of Whittier on securing a replacement for next school year. We wish Mrs. Miles a very happy retirement!

Crossing guard, Mr. Charlie Matthews, will be retiring at the end of this school year after 50 years as a City of Wheaton employee. Mr. Matthews has held a number of positions with the city and has assisted Washington families in crossing President Street for the last nine years. If you have encountered Mr. Matthews (Charlie) during your time at Washington, please join us in wishing him a happy retirement.

Ms. Melissa Koenig worked as an EL teacher this year at Washington and Lowell. Next year, she will be a full-time EL teacher at Lowell. Mrs. Cathy Liebenow taught music this year at Washington, Whittier, and Sandburg. Mrs. Liebenow will be leaving at the end of this school year and teaching music outside of CUSD 200 next year. We wish Ms. Koenig and Mrs. Liebenow all the best!

Ms. Amy Consolazio, 2nd grade teacher, will be returning to Madison Elementary School next year. Ms. Consolazio moved from Madison this year when their enrollment changed; she now has the opportunity to return, and we wish her well!

Mrs. Beth Miller, 2nd grade teacher, will be moving into a full-time special education resource position next school year. This will give Mrs. Miller the opportunity to work with Washington students in all grades and to utilize her LBS1 special education licensure. The special education team welcomes her on board! Mrs. Craig will share information about a teacher to replace Mrs. Miller in 2nd grade later this summer.

Happy Retirement, Mrs. Smejkal, Mrs. Miles, and Mr. Charlie!
