The Cloud Connection

Math: We are learning about rounding to find products, and methods helpful in finding partial products. I know this sounds absurd, but if you would please send your child's bag of Halloween Candy with them on Friday we will be using it for a math assignment. I won't be letting them eat any of the candy unless I have a note from you that they can have a piece or two at lunch. Otherwise I'll hang onto their bag until the end of the day. Homework: Mon. pg. 207-208, Tues. 219-220, Thurs. pg. 221-222 if not finished in class.
Reading: We'll continue to work on our biography unit this week. We'll put the finishing touches on our presentations and work on our posters. I'm hoping that we're able to start sharing our VIP presentations on Friday.
Language: Students will be typing final drafts of their biography presentations and their Monster Match descriptions on Tuesday. Our test covering the vocab. cards meter or metry, bio, log or logue and mono will be on Friday. We will be launching into our unit on informational writing this week. I'd like students to be thinking of several things they are experts on so they have some topics to choose from. We'll be working on in-depth informational writing surrounding their topic.
Social Studies: Since we didn't get to this last week we'll practice finding the longitude and latitude of places this week using our atlases, as we learn about landforms.
Other items: Students are excited about reading as much as they can over the next few weeks for our Read-A-Thon. I'll be checking their reading logs every Monday. These should come back and forth to school every day. We appreciate all of your support as you encourage your child to read in their spare time. Pledges are encouraged as well since we are hoping to raise enough money for technology upgrades. The Read-A-Thon is taking the place of our weekly reading logs until Nov. 10. Students will need to have a new book chosen for their second quarter book report by the first week in Nov. We'll discuss this quarter's project a week from Monday.
Thank you for helping collect box tops for our Box Top drive. If you have box tops and weren't able to get them to us by Friday we are happy to take them late. There will be another drive later this year and we can get a jump on the next round.
It was a pleasure to meet with all of you who were able to make it to conferences. Thank you for making the effort. Communication between home and school is a necessary component of student success.
We start with our Artist in the School, Alison Marshall, on Wednesday. She is a gifted teacher in combining movement with curriculum. Mark your calendars for Nov. 8 at 1:15 to view the students at work.

Halloween Party
We'll have our Halloween Parade at two followed by a class party. If you'd like to bring snacks please let me know so I have an idea of how many snacks are coming our way. Currently we have 18 students. Students need to have a costume that is ready to wear: no make-up or hair products can be applied at school. Any hair or make-up needs to be done before they come to school on Halloween (if their costume requires special hair or make-up.)
