Safety & Security Updates
Your child’s safety is of utmost importance at Twin City Elementary. The staff and I have undergone a review of our safety protocols and want to update you with information.
Closed Campus
During the hours of 8:45-3:45 our campus is currently closed to visitors, volunteers and community use. We ask that you not exercise or walk your pets on school grounds while students are present.
Building Security
During school hours, all exterior doors are locked, including the portable classroom doors. We have an electronic keycard system that staff and students in portable classrooms can use to access the building as needed.
There are 9 security cameras installed both inside our hallways and outside on the playground. The camera footage is displayed and monitored in our main office and reviewed for any after hours issues.
Emergency Contacts
Each fall we ask parents/guardians to update your child’s contact information in Skyward. Only those adults listed as household members or emergency contacts will be authorized to pick up your child.
Please make sure that phone numbers and email addresses are correct. Check to ensure that your cell phone is set up to receive voice messages and that your mailbox is not full.
In an emergency, we ask that you have listed adults who you authorize to pick your child up or approve medical care if needed. It would be helpful to have a local emergency contact in case we need to contact someone else if the parent/guardian is not available.
Late Arrivals/Early Pickups
If you are dropping your child off after the start of the school day, we ask that you contact the office and give a reason for the tardy. You may call the school or buzz the front door. Your child will receive a tardy slip to give to their teacher when they enter the classroom.
If you need to pick up your child early from school, we ask that you contact the office to make the request. You may call the school or buzz the front door. You will be asked to sign your child out for our records. Both tardies and pickups are entered into your child’s attendance record in Skyward.
End of Day Dismissal
If you are walking onto campus to pick up your child, please line up by the gym doors behind the cones. An adult will assist you in retrieving your child from the gym. While on school grounds, we ask that you please wear a mask.
If you are driving through the pick up line, please remain in your car at all times. Please drive slowly in the parking lot and watch for staff and students in the roadway. Your child will enter from the passenger side and a staff member can assist with opening/closing the door.
Our neighbor businesses at the Kohles Professional Center and Heritage Bank do not allow parking in their lots for drop off or pick up. If you wish to park and walk onto campus, please park in the Taco Time or Haggens lots where more space is available. Violators will be reported and/or towed.
Conferences
On October 27, 28 and 29 students will have school from 9:00-12:00 and early release for conferences. There will be no late start on Wednesday, October 27. School will begin at 9:00 rather than 10:20. Only breakfast will be served on October 27, 28 and 29, so please plan for lunch at home.
Smarter Balanced Assessment
Fourth and fifth graders will be completing the ELA and Math assessments this week. The test will be administered to fourth and fifth graders only and will include standards of the previous grade level. Testing should last approximately 60-75 minutes and will be administered on the computer. On testing days, please help to prepare your child by making sure they are rested and have eaten breakfast. Encourage them to do their best.
Vision/Hearing Screening
Counselor Corner
Empathy means we make a choice to feel what others are feeling, and act with care to help them if we can. Our school community has been through a lot in the last couple years with the pandemic and changes to what our school experience looks like. These experiences have asked each of us to look out for each other’s best interests and do all we can do to help. We have been given many opportunities to show empathy and compassion. I encourage you to take time as a family to talk about what the last couple of years have taught you, and how these lessons have helped you to grow in kindness and empathy.
We are here to meet with students and parents/guardians. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. My email is jscwharze@stanwood.wednet.edu.
