Key Communicators Network
March 2, 2018
Greetings!
I hope your year has been a great one so far! With the November Bond election and other district initiatives, the Key Communicators Network has been a little quieter this year as many of you are already involved in district programs or committees. However, now seemed like a good time to give you a few updates.
I will plan on getting this group together this spring. Please let me know if you think of anyone who would like to be a part of this group.
Enjoy the newsletter and I hope to see you soon!
Early Childhood Education Center
This is a very exciting time! We have more than 30 people within the district and community as a part of the Early Childhood Steering Committee. We had our first group meeting last week to present an overview of the project and share out sub-committee chairpersons. Each committee member then signed up for a sub-committee and work will begin later in March in those sub-committees. There will be a retreat for the committee chairs to detail the work that needs to be done over the next 15 months.
As for the timeline, we believe we will break ground this August with the goal of getting the building enclosed for the winter. If timing goes well, teachers will be able to get into the building to start setting up in late July of 2019. Our first class in the new building will be in the fall of 2019.
1:1 Technology
In addition, our team is continuing it's professional development classes for teachers in the 1:1 pilot classrooms and working on a schedule to expand professional development for all teachers ahead of the rollout at the end of the summer. Professional development has always been a major focus and priority of ours when considering and planning for 1:1. Our pilot teachers are learning a lot this year and will be a great resource for others.

Bulldogs Bookin' Bus Wins Grant, Preps for Year #2
The community response and interest in being a part of this project has been amazing! We believe that was a big factor in a recent announcement that the Bulldogs Bookin' Bus won a $2500 Education Excellence grant from SET-SEG and MASB (Michigan Association of School Boards.) There were more than 200 grant applications; only 25 schools received the honor. We will soon be presented with another bright green road sign to put up at the city entrance!
This is Otsego's 5th Education Excellence grant from SET-SEG/MASB. We have received the honor for:
* Rewiring the brain
* Jump Start
* OHS Math Lab
* Tech Camp and Beyond
* Bulldogs Bookin' Bus
