Implementation
Two weeks ago, we visited small group binders for evidence of implementation. Last week, we made a specific effort to catch small group implementation and high student engagement in action. And we sure did! Please see the pictures below.
We have spent time learning, discussing, and analyzing all aspects of the learning process: Initial first instruction, guided learning, small group practice, individual practice, learning stations, DOL rigor, data analysis, curriculum alignment, and so on. Now is the time it must come together in a seamless fashion. And it has.
And it will continue.
This process will show during student's Common Assessment results, STAAR testing, and more importantly, students will be Learning and their Engagement will increase (with negative behaviors decreasing). We will continue to start instruction at 8am and give students enough time to learn all that they need to.
It is Spring, a week break is right around the corner, but hold steadfast; continue this important process. Our students depend on us.
Onward!
20th Week in Review
We observed and discussed DOLs and Instructional Activity student products and compared them to the TEKS.
We visited our current alignment and calendar for being on track towards ACPs.
We completed all Spring Emergency Drills.
And, Chavez had its first School-Wide assembly with every grade level in the Auditorium! (Thank you for support and redirecting student behavior as needed during the event!)
The Dallas ISD Board approved plans for the consolidation of Kennedy and Ray into Chavez for the 18-19 school year. Other plans approved as well. Please see The Hub for more details.

Teacher Shout Outs!!
So much greatness was seen last week, a truly deserved Shout Out goes to EVERY CHAVEZ TEACHER & STAFF!!
Last week we had challenges come from things outside of our control, but we kept Student Learning as our priority and continued to move forward. You are exceptional!
Additionally, a Shout Out goes to:
Torres - great use of student work stations. Students know each station and can elaborate why they are doing the work they are doing.
Hanz - Use of technology in the classroom and superb demonstration of student note taking
Padilla - use of Whiteboards to replace paper, and transitions were done seamlessly and quickly
Valente - reinforcing students to show their thinking and use strategies on their work
Great job!!
