Parents -- We Need Your Input!
Brookwood Elementary is celebrating Exceptional Children's Week from March 5-9. Exceptional Children's Week is a time to promote awareness of children with exceptionalities and to spotlight our Special Education teachers, who work with these great kids every day!
Beginning Monday, March 5, students will participate in "T-Shirt Support Days". Each day of the week students and staff will be asked to wear a designated color in support of the Learning Difference of the Day.
Monday: Autism - BLUE
Tuesday: Speech, Hearing, Vision - YELLOW
Wednesday: Specific Learning Disabilities - RED
Thursday: ADHD & Sensory - ORANGE
Friday: Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy - GREEN
Our Special Ed teachers will be featured on the morning news each day and the students will learn how they specifically help their classmates with these learning differences. Teachers will share books and videos with their students about these same learning differences daily in their classroom.
The grade with the highest total of money raised at the end of the week will receive an extra recess! Grade level totals will be announced each day on the morning news. There will also be a special PRIZE for the class who raises the most money for the school.
So send in your spare change (we will also accept checks and paper money) and help us help our friends with special needs to have access to more alternative seating options.
Thank you for supporting us as we shine some light on these special kids and their extraordinary teachers this week.
The Annual Festival of the Arts - Passion First Night
Save the Date! Thursday, March 15, 2018
Your children have been preparing their art for months! Right now students are coming into the art room to finish up projects. Every artist is choosing their favorite piece of art to display. The students are signing, titling, and writing about their work. Our PTO volunteers are hard at work gluing the artwork to the art show papers to send to the framers for the big night.
This year we will have choral performances by students in kindergarten, first, and second grades in addition to our third, fourth and fifth grade choruses. Your children are hard at work in their music classes preparing songs for your entertainment.
Once again this year, our Creative Cats will be offering free face painting and a selfie booth, so come and join us for the fun!
Please mark Thursday, March 15 on your calendar now.
