WEEK OF May 23rd

On Monday the kindergarten classes walked to Weaver Park. We looked at maps to see where we were going to be walking. The weather was beautiful and the children had a great time!

On Thursday we read the book We Are Going On A Bear Hunt and made maps of how they traveled from their house to the bear cave! The children did a great job on this project.

What we are learning about this week

Writing- this week we have been writing narrative stories - the children have been choosing their own topics- we are working on spacing between words- using capital letters at the beginning of sentences and punctuation marks.

Daily 5- we continue to work on Read to Self, Read to Someone, Work on Writing ,Word Work and listening to reading

we also are working in our small guided reading groups

during our focus lessons we are working on retell, phoneme segmentation(sounding out consonant-vowel- consonant words) and the purpose an author writes a story,

beginning sounds, and answering questions about key details in a text

please make sure that your child is reading nightly and going over sight words

remember to have your child point to each word when he/she is reading to you

We also finished our end of year benchmark on reading levels and sounds. We will be sending home a copy soon.

Fundations- we have been learning how to tap and read consonant-vowel-consonant words and the correct way to write capital letters- we are also learning about diagraphs (wh, ch, sh, th, and ck) the children are learning that diagraphs go together to make one sound (ex. math)

please work with your child on counting numbers 1- 100 and (more and less)-

decomposing numbers (14 = 10+4)
