Thank you Forestburg School Alumni!
Social 20 would like to thank the following former students of Forestburg School for popping in to help us with our learning over the past few months. Megan Trudeau, who is a journalist on Vancouver Island, joined us to review some of our writing pieces. Zack Walker, a recent graduate, joined us to talk about his humanitarian trip to the Dominican Republic and how it changed his views on Canada giving international aid. Connor Brown, who is a diver in the Canadian navy, joined us to talk about his job and some of the missions he has represented Canada on. Awesome to see Forestburg School alumni doing great things in the world and taking some time to help us better understand the material that we are learning.
Social 20 with Mr. Rathwell
The Social 20 class had a great opportunity in the final week of March to take part in two activities through the Montreal Holocaust Museum. We were able to participate in virtual tour of the Holocaust with a museum curator on one morning and then be joined by Holocaust survivor Fishel Goldig who told the students of his time growing up Jewish in the Ukraine during the early 1940s. Students also had a chance to ask questions at the end of the presentation. It was a powerful and humbling experience for class and teacher. Mr. Goldig finished off our experience by reminding us how lucky we were to be Canadian and how it is the job of our youth to make sure world events like this don't happen in the future. What a great way to finish off our month and take us into spring break.
