Hello, From Mrs. Wilson!
Our school has been such a hub of awesome activity, that I can't believe that we've already passed the one month mark for the school year!
Please be sure to take a moment to read through this jam-packed newsletter, and then head on over to our school Facebook page, and give us a follow!
The PTO recently wrapped up their first fundraiser of the year and completely crushed their goal! We congratulate them with their efforts, as money they raise funds really neat projects and events here at CCS for our students and school community. Rumor has it that they've recently purchased a popcorn machine and we might be bringing back popcorn Fridays!
Students have now wrapped up beginning of the year testing, and we've started RtI in grades K-5, and competency recovery in grades 6-8.
Our grade levels will be taking turns hosting whole-school assemblies this year, and we will begin this Thursday with our 8th graders.
Have a great long weekend, and we'll see everyone back here on Tuesday, October 11th!
In Kindness,
Mrs. Wilson
STEAM Maker's Cart
We were able to use some of our Title IV grant funds to purchase a mobile STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Math) cart for all students in K-8 this year.
Students will learn science and engineering concepts through experimentation, grow their understanding and evolve projects through the design & engineering process.
Mrs. Duval has already had several grade levels sign up to co-teach some projects with her, and we hope to see this equipment used as a springboard for a true maker's space in our building.
Check out the windmills that 3rd grade built this week as part of a unit on weather.
Kinder GARDEN
Mrs. Rowe & Mrs. Martin's Kindergarten classes worked with Mrs. White & Mrs. Hunt's classes this morning to harvest flowers from their garden. First graders were able to explain their garden project to our new Kindergarteners, officially passing the torch to our newest batch of gardeners!
First graders were able to take home their planting buckets that they made last spring, and they finished harvesting the last of the flowers for the season.
6th Grade Greek Mythology
6th Graders are wrapping up their studies on Greek Mythology with class presentations. Each student chose a Greek God or Goddess to research and then dressed up for their presentation and created a prop as well.
Johnny Appleseed Day in 2nd Grade
Second graders in Mrs. Mara and Mr. Natusch's classes celebrated Johnny Appleseed Day by making apple pies!
Students learned about John Chapman, better known as “Johnny Appleseed,” and how he was born in Massachusetts on September 26, 1774. September 26th is celebrated as Johnny Appleseed Day, and we remember how he helped to bring apples and apple orchards to the new frontier.
News from the Art Room
Students in K-8 have been honing their art skills in Art classes with Mrs. Perkins this fall.
First Graders in the Outdoor Classroom
First graders have been heading out into the CCS Outdoor Classroom each Friday. Last week, students collected leaves after reading Leaf Man. They retold the story together by making leaf people.
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to CCS October 11-13!
Family Shopping Wed. 10/12 & Thurs. 10/13 from 2:45-6:00! All purchases through the Book Fair benefit our school. Thanks for supporting our kids! Happy reading!

No physical contact is made with your child and eye drops are not necessary. The child simply looks at some blinking lights for a few seconds. Weeknight Recipe Share
Mrs. Wilson has been adding this section into our staff Monday Memo, and our communications committee has asked a similar section to be placed into our bi-weekly school newsletter. We all know that getting meals on the table during the school week is hectic enough, so our hope is that by giving you some inspiration, that will help! Feel free to send us some ideas of your own to highlight!
