2021-2022 LCAP Survey

We need your help! Montebello Unified School District is currently seeking feedback that will help us revise our Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP). The LCAP is a tool for our district to set goals, plan actions, and leverage resources to meet those goals to improve student outcomes. Read Across America Week

  • Each year, National Read Across America Day is celebrated on March 2nd, the birthday of Dr. Seuss. This annual event is an initiative on reading created by the National Education Association. Read Across America Week is a fun way to encourage reading in children.

Principal's Corner

From the Desk of Ms. Fernández:


Thank you parents for all of your support this year and for helping us have such a fun 100th day of school. All of your kiddos looked absolutely adorable.


I know this year has come with some challenges, but I would like to commend our students, staff and community for all of your hard work and dedication. It does not go unnoticed. Last year we had 2 students from grades 3-5 meet the requirements to reclassify from Limited English Proficient to Fluent English Proficient, however, this year, the opportunity for reclassification was opened up to all of our students from grades 1-5 who are English Language Learners, which made it possible for us to reclassify 9 students from Limited English Proficient to Fluent English Proficient! What a great accomplishment for our Wildcats! We are currently in the middle of ELPAC testing all of our English Learners so it is important that we encourage all of our students to do their best so that we will have the opportunity to reclassify even more students.


We have more great news! Beginning Monday, February 28th, the district will be providing Wilcox with a daily roving substitute to help with class coverage. This contracted substitute will be provided to us from Kelly Agency and will be shared between Wilcox, Potrero Heights and Macy Intermediate, however, the substitute will report to Wilcox first and will only be sent to the other schools if we do not need the additional support.


As you know we delayed the return from winter break for our students by a week. As a result, we have to make-up the instructional days for the school year. We will be making up the instructional days at the end of the school year on Monday, June 13, 2022, Tuesday, June 14, 2022 and Wednesday, June 15, 2022. This will change the last day of school from Friday, June 10, 2022 to Wednesday, June 15, 2022.

Accelerated Learning Labs (ALL)

In order to provide additional academic support to our students as they transitioned from distance learning back to in person instruction, MUSD implemented Accelerated Learning Labs at every school. Wilcox is fortunate to have an amazing ALL team which consists of Ms. Kimberly Lazaro, Program Specialist, whose role is oversee the ALL program and support our ALL teachers, Ms. Luisa Montoya-Navar, K-3 ALL teacher, and Ms. Dawn Jazirehi, 3-5 ALL teacher.


The goal of the ALL program is to provide targeted student instruction, increase parent engagement, and to increase student confidence and efficacy by providing ongoing literacy support. Students selected to participate in the ALL program, receive small group instruction (8-10 students) in building phonics and reading skills daily for 45 minutes during the school day.

After School Intervention

In effort to provide additional academic support to as many students as possible, Wilcox is also implementing two different sessions of an after school intervention program. The students who were identified to participate in the first session of the after school intervention program receive support in building phonics and reading skills twice a week for 5 weeks. An afternoon snack is provided to all students that participate. The second session of after school intervention for the next group of students will take place from April 4th- May12th. If you have any questions, please reach out to your student's classroom teacher or Ms. Moreno.
