Hats
Our students have been enjoying outdoor play and games. Can I remind all parents and carers that every student must have a school hat to play outside. If your child needs a new hat, they can be purchased from the P&C Uniform shop.
Have a great week!
Deborah Kelly
Missing Scooter
A black and grey and pink scooter went missing from the school grounds last week. They are the property of two of our students and they would very much like it returned. If you have seen these scooters, please contact the school Administration office on 4957 2605.
Year 5 Leadership

Remembrance Day
Last Friday 11th November, the students at Jesmond Public School commemorated Remembrance Day. Separate Remembrance Day Services were held for K-2 and 3-6. Students paused and reflected on the sacrifice made by service men and women in past and current wars and observed a minute silence in memory of those who died or suffered in these armed conflicts.
EAL/D Great Start Transition Program
Sabira, Kawsar, Rouidullah and Salma have been visiting Callaghan College Waratah Campus for the EAL/D Great Start Transition Program on Fridays. This is a fantastic program for students who have recently arrived in Australia to support their transition to high school. The students have had a wonderful time connecting with other new students, meeting the staff and becoming familiar with the high school environment.

NSW Premier's Spelling Bee
2nd in the state!
On Friday 4th November, our very own Isaac from Year 3 travelled to ABC studios in Sydney where the best of the best gathered to battle out for the crown of NSW Public Primary Schools’ best speller. 30 students competed in the junior final after winning their regional rounds against 1700 competitors. The regional final competitors had previously been determined at a school level following competitions held early in Term 3. An original 167,700 students participated in the state-wide Spelling Bee in these early rounds.
The Junior final lasted over 2 hours and was a tough 11 rounds, only 3 of which were taken from 'seen' lists supplied by the Bee, the later 8 rounds coming from words from 'unseen' lists. Isaac outlasted 28 competitors to finish as runner up in the Junior competition - what an amazing achievement! The winner of the competition was Saarth from Wentworthville Public School.
As a school, we found out the exciting news not long after the competition ended. An announcement was made to all staff and students via the school’s intercom system. A thunderous applause and loud cheer could be heard erupting from all areas across the school as the announcement was made. Congratulations Isaac, we are all so very proud of you.
Author and Illustrator Visit
Last Thursday, we were extremely lucky to have some authors and illustrators visit our school.
Jess Black and Kirrili Lonergan talked with Stage 3 students and Katrina McKelvey and Jenni Goodman talked with Stage 2 students.
Everyone involved in the day had a fabulous time and learned a lot of tips about writing books and creating interesting illustrations.
We would also like to thank Julie Swane for organising this wonderful event.
Whilst we are on library news, borrowing will cease at the end of this week so that we have time for students to return their books before the holidays. For those students who would still like to access books during the holiday break, Wallsend Library is a public library where children can borrow many books and resources for FREE!
