GOODNOE GAZETTE
October 28, 2022
I would like to extend a note of thanks to the PTO for hosting their annual Trunk or Treat event last weekend! It was great to see so many students in their costumes and the many creative trunks! Thank you to all of the families that participated in this fun event. The raffle baskets were a big success with a lot of happy winners!
Today was an exciting day at GES with our PBIS- Rocky’s Rules Kick Off Assembly!! The school was broken into two groups for the assembly- K-3rd & 4th-6th. The assembly focused on reviewing Rocky’s Rules for all areas of the school through a fun trivia game between students and staff. Students in the audience participated along with the contestants by using their fingers to represent the correct answer. Mrs. Milliken also led the students in our school Rocky Rules song and even Rocky himself made an appearance! The students did a fantastic job being respectful, responsible and safe throughout the whole assembly! We are looking forward to more PBIS Rocky’s Rules assemblies throughout the year!
Halloween is on Monday! As previously shared, in the event it does rain we will need to reschedule the parade for another day. A decision to reschedule the parade will be made by 10:00a.m. for AM Kindergarten and 1:00p.m. for grades one through five and PM Kindergarten. A rain date for the parade has not yet been determined. Classroom parties will go on as scheduled. *Please remember - students should bring their costumes to school in a labeled bag. Costumes should not be worn to school. Additional information regarding our Halloween plans is included in this newsletter below.
Have a wonderful weekend! Go Phillies!

Meals for Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK)
Goodnoe Elementary families have been making and providing lunches for TASK for many years. Students in grades K-6 prepare bagged lunches at home, and then those lunches are delivered to TASK weekly. This act of charity and kindness, while always generous, has become so much more important over the last couple of years as the pandemic continues to leave many hungry and in need. This year, the 6th grade students made it their mission to make the most amount of lunches in Goodnoe Elementary history. Each class rallied together and the 6th grade students made 1,541 lunches over 4 weeks to feed the hungry at TASK. This was an average of 385 lunches per class.
The Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK) is the only weekday soup kitchen in the Mercer Bucks Region. It is open 5 days a week to provide lunch and dinner to those that are hungry. In their 40 years of service, TASK has never turned away anyone who has come to them for a meal. Their mission is to feed the hungry and offer programs to encourage self-sufficiency and improve quality of life.
As we move towards the weeks in which other grade levels will be making lunches for TASK, we encourage everyone to set a generous goal in an effort to feed as many people as possible. .

Notes from the Music Room
The music room has been taken over by ghostly good sounds this week. We have been experimenting with all different spooky sounds with our voices, making lots of dynamic changes and singing in parts with a “minor” flair. Check out these slides with some of our favorite Halloween songs to sing: Halloween Songs
Keep on Singing!!!
Below is a picture of 4th grade singing "Ghost of John."
Library with Mrs. Topley
Students in grades 4-6 had a wonderful visit with John Schu last week. If you are interested in ordering books for your children that he talked about or gave away, please click here to learn more. Mr. Schu shared books appropriate for all grade levels.
HELP! Parents, we have had many books damaged this year(almost 30) from water bottles accidentally leaking in backpacks. Please help us by placing bottles outside the backpack when possible; placing books in a separate inside compartment or plastic bag; checking water bottle lids; and making sure kids know how to tighten them properly. We will reinforce this in library next week as well.
Thank you for supporting your children and their positive reading habits!

Reading Tidbits & Tips
So Many Genres, So Little Time!
What is a genre? It is a category of literature, characterized by similarities in form, style, or subject matter. Genre of the month, Mystery. A mystery is simply an unsolved question and the attempt to answer it. In literature, this mystery is often a crime, but anything unexplainable can inspire a great mystery. Like all genre fiction, Mystery follows a formula, one that readers expect. The thing that must happen: something unexplainable.
A Note from the School Nurse
The health office is welcoming clothing donations. As the weather is getting cooler, we are in need of some warmer clothing. Some of the items we would appreciate and happily accept:
-Pants (size 5t - adult x-small)
-T-shirts (any size)
-Sweatshirts or Jackets (any size)
-Socks
Thank you for your support!
Toys at School
I'd like to provide a reminder to families about the need for children to keep toys at home. Recently, there have been issues with Pokémon cards and stuffed animals particularly. There are challenges that face the school staff when cards/items are lost or damaged. It results in hurts feelings and an intrusion on instructional time. To avoid these issues, we ask that toys stay at home. Thank you for your help to reinforce this message.
School Breakfast and Lunch Information
The October/November lunch menu is available on the homepage of the GES website, and you can find it at the following LINK and pictured below. To avoid confusion, be sure to review the meal options with your child each day. In addition, you can find the daily breakfast menu on the menus website and button below.
IMPORTANT
News from the Physical Education Department:
A reminder to all of our Goodnoe Grizzly families that as the weather is turning outside, please remember to be prepared to participate in Physical Education class with safe footwear (preferably sneakers that tie) and warm attire for outdoor activities. The weather may determine what footwear your students wear to school that day (snow, rain, etc) so you may need to pack athletic shoes that students can wear to safely participate in our movement-based class. Thank you for your help in supporting safe movement!
SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT
During the past few weeks, your child’s class has been reviewing the SW-PBIS (School Wide- Positive Behavior Interventions & Support) school expectations. The lessons included a class discussion, modeling and practicing of respectful, responsible, and safe behaviors in the locations listed on the school-wide matrix. Your child’s class also learned about the voice levels that are expected for the different locations. Please take some time to review the matrix and voice level chart with your child. Our school website has a SW-PBIS link with more specific information regarding the structure of Goodnoe’s School Wide Positive Interventions & Support system. Check out more information at the links below.
