The CMS Scoop
The Best Middle School in the Universe!
Volume 14, Number 19 - April 20, 2020
Week of April 20th
CMS Families,
I know you all received the press release from Tim Savoy regarding school closed for the remainder of the school year. I know we thought it might be a possibility but hearing the final verdict was definitely heartbreaking for our staff. However, just because we are not in a physical setting, we will continue to be here our kids. Our teachers will continue with the on-line learning platform for the remainder of the school year and you can reach out to us for any concerns or needs you or your family may have.
We know as we settle into our fifth week of learning at home, we want to continue to remind you all that we know you have lots going on in your lives right now. Your lives are busy with working outside the home or at home. The added stress of trying to keep up with at home learning can be overwhelming. However, we want you to know that we are here to help you and not add stress to you or your family. We DO want to make sure we connect with your child in each of their classes by turning in their work and/or coming to a zoom session. Some of the work may be too difficult, so we just want your child to turn in what they have so we know they are trying. Your child's advisory teacher will also try to reach out to every student to touch base with them regarding all things school and anything else. They can be in the form of an email, zoom session or a text.
We are moving Chapa Chatter Live Zoom Edition to 4pm. Watch us live or go back and watch. We look forward to your comments!
Please also utilize the Meals to go provided by the district. As it gets difficult to go to the store, please utilize this service! Our middle school kids eat a TON and any little bit helps.
We are all working virtually. We have laptops and are checking email all day, so please feel free to email any of us for questions. We are here for you.
Take care and know that we love our CMS Families!!!

Students will receive this information in advisory on April 20th once we know most students should have devices. Meanwhile, they can login and check their course selection.
Students Will:
View their Student Self Serve portal “4 Year Plan” to review next years course selections
Email Magda Flores, Counselor, for any changes (magda.flores@hayscisd.net).
Directions for students:
Log into your student self serve (SSS) portal. There’s a new tab labeled “4 year plan”. Your requested courses will be listed in one of the boxes. They are labeled as Pre-High School, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, and Year 4
These are the courses your counselor entered based on your course request sheet
Make sure you have a total of 7 credits for classes. Be mindful of semester duration classes that only count as half of a class. Look for any course numbers with a 2 or 3 after the decimal (period) indicating the class is multiple periods long (Blocked)
Changes need to be “one for one” to ensure you still have 7 classes.
It’s important to know once school begins in August, Counselors will only correct errors or add a required class that is needed for graduation.
