Sept 3 -- First Day of School

First Day

As everyone is getting excited for the first day of school, we would like to help with logistics of drop off on day 1. All students will enter the building at 7:35am and we start the day at 7:45am.

If students are eating breakfast, they will enter at 7:20 am and sit in the cafe to eat. If students are not eating breakfast, proceed to designated door locations.

6th - north doors

7th - garden doors

8th - cafe doors

6th Grade:

All sixth graders will enter the building with staff and proceed to the MAIN gym to start their day. Students will be welcomed by staff and assisted by WEB leaders. This process will be reviewed at 6th grade orientation on Aug 29th.

7th and 8th Grade:

Upon entering the building, students will proceed to the first hour class on their schedule. Students do not go to base group first hour.

No schedule? Not sure where to go?

Outside of the main office, we will have a schedule station and staff on hand to help. Mrs. Skonecki, Mr. Malin, and Mrs. Piotrowski will be available.

Students -- Morning Routine

In looking at traffic patterns of students, we have made some morning adjustments.

Students that would like to have breakfast can enter the cafe doors at 7:20am. They can sit and have a meal. They will be released to classes at 7:35am.

After 7:35am, students will be offered a grab and go breakfast and they will be moving on to class, so everyone can start on time at 7:45 am.

Students that are not eating will proceed to their designated locations. They will be entering the building at 7:35 am. These locations will have grade level teachers present to assist students.

6th grade:

Students will enter the building via the north end doors.

7th grade:

Students will enter the building via the garden doors.

8th grade:

Students will enter the building via the cafe doors.

All students are expected to be in classes and ready to learn by 7:45 am.

In the case of inclement weather, 6th grade students can enter the building and wait in the main gym, and 7th and 8th grade students can enter the building and wait in the auxiliary gym. If students would like to eat breakfast, they will be sitting in cafe.

Principal's Message

Hello Families!

As we all prepare for day 1, please take a moment to read about first day procedures and updated traffic patterns.

6th graders, that attended Aug 29th orientation, reviewed how first day would go and the WEB leaders will be present on Sept 3rd. Please, look for the tie dye t-shirts and/or staff if assistance is needed.

This year, I will be introducing staff members and teams in the newsletter. Last newsletter, shared information about our office staff, Kim Miller and Lisa Glynn. This newsletter introduces Ms. Myers and Ms. Matysik. In addition, follow us on Twitter. Staff have shared videos and happening at Lane.

Office Staff

We would like to introduce our office staff. Kim Miller is taking on the head secretary position at Lane. She is a returning staff member; we are lucky to have her friendly face in the office welcoming families and helping Lane run smoothly. Lisa Glynn will be joining our team on Sept 4th. She is taking on the role of mainly attendance and health related issues. For health concerns, Suzette Chern, will be working with families.

Please, take a moment to introduce yourself and welcome these faces to Lane.

Staff Introductions...

One of the sixth grade teams is taught by Taylor Matysik and Abigail Myers. Taylor and Abigail are both first year teachers and are new to Lane Intermediate. Taylor is teaching Science and Math. Taylor enjoys spending time with her family, watching sports, and coaches Boy's Volleyball at West Allis Central High School. Abigail is teaching Balanced Literacy and Social Studies. Abigail loves playing disc golf, reading (especially Harry Potter), and camping. Taylor and Abigail are both very excited to meet their students for their first year of teaching, and look forward to welcoming in the incoming sixth graders!

Open House -- Sept 11 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Open House will have a different feel this year. So, we wanted to share some general information about the event. This is a family session. If younger siblings / students attend, separate activities will be provided by staff. Our goal for Open House is to build relationships and make connections with parents. We believe that parents play an integral part in their son's/daughter's education.

What will you do during the event:

  • Brief welcome in aux gym and an introduction to the 4 events that occur this this year -- open house and 3 parent teacher conferences with showcases.

  • Parents will be divided between two core teachers -- information will be given as families enter the cafe doors.

  • Parents will go to classrooms and participate in staff led activities.

  • The evening with still allow time for parents to walk around and meet the teachers.

Traffic Update

We have been looking at traffic patterns and in order to improve traffic flow, we have new designated parking and access to our parking lot.

The parking spaces in front of the building will be open for visitors and/or parents who need to assist their child inside the school building.

Please, use the north lot driveway to access Lane.

Staff will park in the north lot.
