2020-2021 School Year

What does this look like for my student?
Students in grades 9-12 are required to wear face masks or face shields when not able to maintain social distancing
Staff are required to wear face masks or face shields when not able to maintain social distancing
Limited social distancing will be possible, especially in the classroom based on the number of students in attendance
Implement classroom routines that limit close contact (15 minutes within 6-feet of another person)
Students in grades 9-12 will be issued a Chromebook for learning at school and at home.
Meals will be eaten in the classroom
Outdoor breaks will be scheduled daily
Students will be grouped into cohorts and assigned to a classroom
Teachers will transition between classrooms, rather than students
Elective Classes will take place in the classroom or in a designated space outside. PE classes may be held in the gym or outside when possible.
Limit the degree of student cohorts mixing (teams, grade levels, etc.)
Limit the spaces that all students access
Stagger transition routines and arrival/departure times
Limit non-essential visitors into the school
HYBRID LEARNING ON STAGGERED SCHEDULE: In the event that community spread of COVID-19 warrants strict social distancing by reducing the number of students onsite at school at any given time, students will receive in-person instruction at school 2 days per week and distance learning at home 1 day per week. Under this scenario, we would have A days and B days assigned to each family based on last name. Half our students would attend in-person classes on A days, while the other half would learn remotely. The roles would flip on B days. A/B Day participation is necessary for attendance requirements and grading policies will apply to the scheduled courses.

Choose Your Learning Option
It’s essential that parents make these choices in a timely manner so we can plan accordingly for teachers, staff, and classroom/course enrollment to support our students. We know these decisions will be challenging, so we’ll do our best to help by providing the details you’ll need to make an informed decision. Families of returning Affton School District students who do not select an option for each of their students by July 26, 2020, will be automatically enrolled in In-Person Learning and will be opted out of bus transportation.
