Tuesday, September 8- First day of distance learning for our WPS Connections students
Thursday, September 10- First day of in person learning for our "A" Day children.
Welcome Back Chameleons!!
Right before schools closed on March 11, 2020, we had a wonderful visit at our school by Brigadier General Charles Edward McGee, one of the last Tuskegee Airmen.
His message included the 4 P's: Perceive, Prepare, Perform, and Persevere in any challenge facing us. By following the 4 P's, we want everyone to be happy, well, safe, and successful in this very unique time.
When coming back to school here are some key points to remember:
Talk with your child about the pandemic using tips from our school counselor, Ms. Shoemaker: https://docs.google.com/document/d/14SM5b1RVpuH0Sart4BbJXwWxMxCCCF9jF_C2pQG3zmo/edit
Remember the first day of school is Tuesday, 9/8/20, Day B.
Notice all children will have their temperatures taken by a school official daily before coming in the building.
Keep your child at home if they are sick, please.
Know that all children and adults are to wear masks at school; stay preferably three to six feet away from others, and do routine hand-washings.
Patience is a MUST for everyone! Arrival to school and dismissal will take longer due to the added safety protocols and procedures being used. Note that when leaving our school's parking lot, you will only be able to turn right.
Read our GQES updated student handbook for the 2020-2021 school year on our school's website.
Look for several back to school forms from our Central Administrative Office coming home the first week or two of school.
Keep a close eye on the Winchester Public School website for updates: https://www.wps.k12.va.us/ReturntoLearn
Provide a place/space as best you can for your child(ren) to learn at home when they are not in school on their hybrid schedule and/or if they are 100% distance learning. Here are five ideas for learning at home: https://consciousdiscipline.com/keys-for-successful-home-learning/
Send a water bottle to school daily with your child’s name labeled.
Send in school supplies for your child. Check with your child’s teacher if you have questions.
Remember breakfast and lunch will be served in the child's classroom.
Familiarize yourself with the new protocols at our school related to Covid-19.
Know WE WILL HAVE 4 RECESSES daily. When children are running and playing, they will not likely be wearing masks. However, if they wish to play a sedentary game in less than 6 feet, masks are on. PLEASE NOTE THERE WILL BE INCIDENTAL AND ACCIDENTAL CONTACT because children are trying to learn how to be socially distant while being socially connected. Please see: https://pasisahlberg.com/kids-will-need-recess-more-than-ever-when-returning-to-school-post-coronavirus/
Expect that each class will have at least one lesson taught outside because the CDC (Center for Disease Control) has advocated outside as a good place to learn.
Understand your child will be taught how to take on and take off their mask.
Give grace to your child's teacher because of this unusual year.
Know technology can fail. Technology is a great tool; however, sometimes it fails. Great teachers know ways to help.
ALWAYS communicate with your child's teacher and/or our office if you have questions.
Pack and label extra clothing with your child's name on it, if they are in a pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, or Grade 1 class.
THANK YOU! STAY SAFE and WELL!
