Principal's Message

TJ Community:

There is much excitement in the air here at TJ. Our students and staff returned fresh (and full) from Thanksgiving break and we only have a few weeks left before we go on our winter break. As you read in my email this week, I want to thank the entire TJ Community for their incredible generosity with our clothing drive as well as our TJ Cares program. Your generosity will make a difference for our students and it teaches everyone the importance of giving during this holiday season.

Finally, if I do not have a chance to see you in person, may your holidays be filled with good times with family and friends.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call the school. 847.963.5400.

Sincerely,

Dr. Sasso

TJ is a GREAT Place to Learn and Grow

Our students wrote what they are grateful for on leaves that they colored and then classrooms posted them in our main hallway. Our students expressed gratitude towards their families, the school, their friends and so much more.

Do you want to help us decorate the bulletin board in our main hallway?

Feel free to have your child create a handmade holiday card or if your family does an annual Holiday card that you send out to friends and family, please consider sharing one with us so we can fill the bulletin board with holiday wishes from the TJ Community. TJ-WE ARE THE TIE THAT BINDS

Winter Weather

I wanted to share with you are guidelines for recess when the weather is cold. We will continue with the established routines in school. This will include going outside for recess. Students generally go outside for recess every day, so they should be dressed appropriately. Exceptions are made only when a child brings a doctor's note excusing him/her from outdoor recess.

If it is too cold outside, we will keep the students inside the classroom for recess. Below are the guidelines our school district uses to determine if we will send the students outside.

  • If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is below 0°F, all students will remain inside for the entire lunch hour.
  • If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is between 0°-10°F, the preferred procedure is a rotation of 20 minutes for lunch, a 20-minute outdoor recess, and a 20-minute indoor recess. However, at the principal's discretion, students may be kept inside for the entire lunch hour.
  • If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is above 10°F, students will have regular outdoor recess.
  • Other considerations in which indoor recess is allowed include the condition of the playground and the presence of precipitation.

For indoor recess, students are supervised in their classrooms.

Annual PTA Holiday Shop

Parents,

I'm very excited the PTA will be able to bring back our Annual Holiday Shop. Please read this flyer for more information. Thomas Jefferson's holiday gift shop will be returning in person Monday, December 13th through Thursday, December 16th. Each class will have the opportunity to come down and shop for some gifts for the family or for themselves. Items range from .50 cents up to $10 and they will have a large variety of items to choose from.

An envelope will be coming home soon so you can help your child plan who they will buy for and how much they will spend. The student's love the opportunity to choose their special items.

You can click on this link to go their website where you and your child can see some of the items they could purchase.

The PTA also needs a little help during the Holiday Shop. If you can, please consider volunteering for a time slot or two on this signup form
