Are you tired of your students zoning-out during your video lessons? Are you looking for a way to ensure students are actively engaging while using video content? Then we have the tool for you!
EduCanon is an online learning environment that helps teachers to create and share interactive video lessons. Teachers begin with any YouTube, Vimeo, or TeacherTube video content (screencasts, Khan Academy, Minute Physics, TED, NOVA, etc.) and transform what is traditionally passive content into an active experience for students. This is done by inserting activities, such as questions, notes, or opportunities to pause and reflect as the video progresses, thus dividing the content into smaller parts and requiring students to think about what they are seeing. This process increases student engagement while viewing educational videos and allows real-time monitoring of student understanding. It is also a useful tool for creating flipped-classroom activities. This session will also be facilitated by Salima Noorani from Educanon via Google Hangout.

In this session, participants will learn how Socrative can help them:
Design and edit your own library of assessments, share them within your personal learning network, and tag them by Common Core standards.
Visualize student and whole class understanding in the moment. Student results populate the teacher’s screen as they submit answers to multiple choice, true/false, graded short answer, or open-response questions(Space Race)
Review student understanding in a variety of report types: whole class overview, student-specific results, or question-by-question breakdown. All the reports can be downloaded, emailed, or delivered to your Google Drive folder at any time. They’re also always accessible in your Reports section of Socrative.

iMovie is a great application that has many possible uses in the classroom. You can create engaging presentations for your students. Students can use pictures, images, and music in iMovie to create book trailers, high-quality video reports, and engaging stories to demonstrate their comprehension of concepts. Both teachers and students can use iMovie to document and record events outside of the school and that has relevance to the units being taught in the classroom e.g., field trips using their MacBooks and iPhones. Using iMovie in classroom projects is a great way to promote a culture of collaboration and co-operation among students.
