TPMS Community Newsletter
Reflect. Reconnect. Rebuild.
Dear TPMS Families,
As we look to welcome our students on Monday, we recognize that it has been quite a while since our students have been in the building as a full student body. It is our goal to create new traditions while establishing and reinforcing past traditions of excellence. To accomplish our goal of creating an inclusive school that meets all students' needs, our focus will be on reconnecting as a learning community, supporting student's social emotional needs, and creating personalized learning experiences to ensure our students continue to learn and grow academically.
Please remember that the partnership between home and school is an important component of every child's education. Thus, please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions. We are here to support you!
All the best,
Mrs. Erin Martin
Acting Principal

Safe Drop Off & Pick Up
- Car riders-Please enter the parking lot on Grant Avenue. When you enter the parking lot, please pull into the drop off/pick up lane to the left of the island and pull into the line along the curb. Drop off/pick up quickly and carefully exit the parking lot.
- Walkers-Please remain on sidewalks at all times. When there is a need to cross the street or parking lot, follow crosswalk signs, crossing guard directions, and staff directions.
With construction still on site, staff parking is extremely tight. Please avoid pulling into a parking spot to walk your child up to the school. Thank you for helping to make the beginning and end of the day safe for all students and staff.
The City of Takoma Park Safe Routes Kick-off
An important part of going Back to School is getting to school safely. The City of Takoma Park's Safe Routes to School Program has partnered with our school since 2007 to keep your students safe while walking and biking to school. This year, more than ever, we want to encourage walking and biking as a safe and healthy way to get to school.
On Wednesday, September 1st from 7:30-8:20, we plan to welcome the students back to school with giveaways, educational demonstrations and fun photo opportunities. We will also unveil our updated maps for each school to help parents choose the safest routes from home to school. Students will receive a custom, child-sized mask, a map of their school walking routes and safety tips for walking and biking.
This is also Doris Rodgers Day* so we will set up our selfie station at Maple and Philadelphia. We will have another biking oriented station at Maple and Grant. All Crossing Guards will be given a bag of giveaways to hand out at their posts. We will try to get around to other posts, but may be occupied around the Community Center. Zeal the Zebra will be on site to help students cross safely. We invite families to write a card and/or stop by and wish Ms. Rodgers a congratulations.
*Doris Rodgers has served as a Takoma Park Crossing Guard for 50 years!
Transportation
We are excited to begin the school year and wanted to provide you all with a reminder regarding bus transportation. Our bus routes are posted on our school website but are also provided below. All important information will be posted to our website and emailed to you. If you are unable to find the answer to a question you have, please contact the office at 240-740-5220.

Afternoon Magnet Program Bus Routes
During the first days of school we ask for your patience. MCPS Transportation is experiencing a shortage of bus drivers and as a result we anticipate delays both for student pick up as well as arriving home. All bus routes will be running, but again, please understand that the bus may be running late.
If you know anyone who may be interested in becoming a school bus driver, the application is here. In order to apply to any job in MCPS, interested individuals must first create a profile.
