The Vietnam War Memorial
History of the war
The Vietnam War happened in South Vietnam. When the soldiers who fought came home they were hoping to make something special to honor them, but care that there were back. Many people didn't like that idea about Americans helping South Vietnam. Many people were helping the war, but many didn't vote for war. The families of the soldiers were very happy to see that they made a memorial.
The Memorial
The memorial was built in November. They were holding a contest decide the winning design. They finally decided who would it be. Maya Lin's design won , but many people didn't like it because it didn't have a flag of the Untied States. So in 1983 they added a flag.
How the Memorial Looks
The Vietnam War Memorial it has a big V in the front . There's a big huge black granite wall. That wall is 246.75 long and 40 to 50 width . It has many names on that wall . 58,000 names to honor the men and women who served in the Vietnam war. The memorial is in the Washington Mall . Like many people have scars the memorial it self looks like a scar that happen to the earth.
