- Paradiso (Paradise)
The poem began in a shadowy forest on good Friday in the year 1300.
The structure of his work
The adjective "Divine" was added by a sixteenth - century editor and publisher and has been retained ever since. The numbers 3 and 10 are symbolic. 3 is symbolic for the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. 10 is symbolic because it is the "perfect" number. Dante is trying to head towards salvation but has to go throughout Satan to get there. 33 was a symbolic number because of 3 and there are 33 cantos in each section.
