Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust

Joy in the Journey

Do you believe in magic?

Here I sit, ready to complete class one of my Educational Specialist degree. While to some it seems like it’s only the beginning, to me, it seems like the beginning to my end. Every two years, I have seen the email come through from Dr. Nancy Coratti inviting staff to apply to Galileo. Every two years I have hit the delete button knowing it wasn’t the right time. First there were three, beautifully active kids, then there was a family business, then there were Disney vacations and family fun time, then there were travel sports. It was always something holding me back and putting off my dream. One day, I almost even forgot about my dream and decided my place was set and my blessed teaching career was keeping me fulfilled. Funny how people are put into our lives for a reason. Leaders create leaders, they don’t elevate themselves. Two big influences stepped up to encourage me to step out. I would never have left the classroom for an Instructional Specialist position if it wasn’t for Dr. Deirdre Brady believing in my leadership and ability. She gave me the push and encouragement I needed to find that piece in me that I had set back in its place...Then came Mrs. Jenna Stevens, our new principal. Her unending support and encouragement can move the most reluctant let alone the most passionate. Then, the two year email came...Well, kids were slowing down, family business was keeping up with the economy, Disney vacations, well, they will never end, travel sports were done...and the dream was still there. So I dug down deep, and pulled out some Disney! Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust became my new motto. Just IF I were to apply to Galileo and just IF I were to be selected, I would pursue the entire dream. Take it out of its place I had put it in, and move forward. The day Dr. Coratti called my desk was my second happiest day of my career. Has this term been a learning curve...yes. Have I forgotten how to do APA...yes. Have I spent countless hours reading and researching because something is new and exciting...yes. Have I loved every minute of it...yes. Can I get enough….no. I simply can’t. I am blessed beyond belief, pursuing something that deep within me is a passion: Teaching, Leading, and Serving others. I am forever grateful to begin my end in mind of administration. I cannot wait to be the Dr. Brady and Mrs. Stevens to fellow educators. I cannot wait to lead with purpose and passion from the heart, towards the 'why' of educating our students to the highest standards. I took my leap of faith, and thanks to a little Disney in there, I’m on my way.
